This is not a mod. This is a sequel..... and it is INCREDIBLE.

Seeing other reviews mention that this mod is insanely difficult, I would like to clarify: this mod does increase the difficulty from DD1 off the bat. However, it also gives you lots of new ways to make up for that increase in difficulty if you plan and stategize. The new, unresistable, extremely strong mechanics you can build around such as Expiate and Amberblight are very strong. Trinkets have been buffed from DD1, where in the base game even the strongest trinkets were equally devastating in drawbacks, now what would be considered a legendary trinket is a common trinket, and they get even stronger as you find the rarer ones. Every week you can expend limited resources to bring block scales, ulra-cleansing powder, and even a free riposte (absurdly strong) if you feel unsafe. You get an extra campfire in every run. Many characters have been given new tools to interact with new scenarios, especially the Man-at-arms and Musketeer.

Of course, there's always the chance you get crit at a bad time, as the odds are never in your favor in classic DD style, and players that are bad at strategically thinking or interacting with these new mechanics will find themselves suffering more than in the base game.

But that's all part of the fun of trying to conquer....
The Darkest Dungeon.

Across the Obelisk is a very fun and unique take on the Roguelite Deckbuilder genre. With the Act 4 update that just released, this game is finally fully playable with a satisfying ending so I can finally recommend it to my friends, and boy can I not recommend it enough:

+Hundreds of classes, cards, items, events, and quests adds up to 150+ hours of gameplay before you find everything
+ Find cards as you adventure to create a unique deck each run, so no two games are alike
+Well designed multiplayer with up to 4 people
+The devs frequently update the game, and both listen to and respond to their active community

As someone with significant hours in both Slay the Spire and Darkest Dungeon, I can definitely see how people would want to make comparisons between them and this game, but there are many distinctions that make Across the Obelisk unique. For one, this game has fantastic MULTIPLAYER, which was the most important thing for me, and is something neither Slay the Spire nor Darkest dungeon achieved.

While this game is great, there are a few mechanics worth noting, that I feel could have been done better:

The deckbuilding is not quite as unique between runs as a other deckbuilders. Since you start out as a specific class with two primary builds, you know which cards you're going to be taking generally when you start a run. That being said, The Corrupted card mechanic allows you to decide if you want to take some risks for reward and potentially receive cards that are strong enough to use even if they don't fit into your build. With the exception of towns, your deck will be built entirely out of cards you find randomly through your adventures, so there still is some variance outside of corruption, but not much.

The perks mechanic has been described by other reviews as "grindy" requiring a lot of runs to level up characters enough to win, however, the newest update changed this to make every character's level equal your highest level character, so this is no longer the case. There still is some progression that requires multiple runs, but the devs have already stated they plan to rework this system so I have high hopes that this problem will be gone entirely soon.

TL;DR
Do you like deckbuilders? Do you have friends who like deckbuilders? Play AtO.

An absolute masterpiece. I can play this game for hours on end without getting bored, there's so much to do and it's apparent with every little detail you find that this game was crafted with love and dedication throughout. As of writing this I just finished the last playthrough of the game I will ever do, and let me say, I definitely got my money's worth from this game and I guarantee you will too. Thank you Relogic for making such a fantastic game, and updating it for almost a decade! I can only hope that your next game will entertain me for another decade.
