Would've like to play this game, buuuut very poor integration with Rockstar's game launcher:

Rockstar did not have email verification when I linked this Steam account to play GTAV. Because the email used for GTAV had a typo, I can no longer play Rockstar games through this Steam account. Rockstar support team not helpful.

Before explaining why I don't think Disco Elysium is a worthy purchase and is not the revolutionary RPG critics claim it is, let me say that the writing is pretty great. There are truly visceral moments in the game which are wonderfully illustrated through the writing. Most of these moments occur during your inner dialogues with your various traits. The inner dialogue theme is enjoyable, unique, and provides an interesting lens on human behavior. The art style and environments in the game are satisfying.

However, just because the "game" has a unique concept and moments of great writing does not mean it is worth buying for the following reasons:

1. The game just puts a new color on old, tired dialogue trees. This is especially true when the game brings up political commentary. You are almost always given 5 choices which puts you into satirical versions of ideologies or none at all. With the hype around the choice and decision making in this game, I would think combinations of traits, skills, and past actions would open up nuanced and unique dialogue options, but unfortunately that is not the case for the majority of interactions.

2. Its not a game. Others gripe about the lack of combat, but I think a game can still be solely dialogue based. However there is no game to the dialogue. There's no strategy you have to figure out to find a particular clue or lead. Instead, its simply talk to everyone in the area, click on the highlighted items, and then maximize the listed trait. There is no thinking to it. Disco Elysium would better serve as a novella or movie than a walking montage with text.

3. There is no risk or sense of urgency to the game. This is somewhat connected to the last point because the lack of risk stems from the absence of challenging obstacles in the game. The game *seems* to impart urgency with the minutes passing by, but you can do the majority of the required interactions in one day with time spare to roam. Combine that with stat based dialogue obstacles which you can retry over and over, and the game ceases to carry purpose.

4. Player choice is similar to most isometric RPGs. This isnt necessarily a bad thing, but for the praise this game gets, one would think that it was as innovative for RPGs as Breath of the Wild was for open world games.

With all of these issues I cannot continue playing the game. One can still enjoy the good writing and story, but I would rather watch a great movie or read a great book that does a better job of utilizing its medium to tell its story. For the price and the abundance of other isometric RPGs with good writing and actual game mechanics, I would not recommend buying Disco Elysium.

Great game. Telltale games always has a good story line and manages to make some pretty great scenarios. The characters while initially some look to be stereotypes are quite interesting and you can still changes some of their characteristics. Its also filled with blenty of jokes and references to series for the fans. Dialogue is witty. The graphics were good and straight from borderlands as well as some of the music. There were a few graphical errors like the characters' pupils bugging out or some object phasing through another, but on the whole not too many bugs. 8/10
