On the way to 100% completion, its a good game and I would recommend it to most, however do not expect a classic Lego game experience because it may fall short. (explained a bit better below)

I'm not great at reviews so ill put it in some dumb format in order of which comes to my brain

Its Essentially a "Arkham lite" game in very good Lego skin.

I don't think the stealth is that bad but its nothing special its quite simple with a few features from Arkham games such as takedowns from gliding and "gargoyle's" unlocked with skill points

Skill points don't really matter much, I saw someone mention you can complete the game using 0 skill points and you 100% can, they are just little changes or upgrades for abilities. there is another upgrade mechanic using Wayne-tech which are more impactful but still nothing out of the ordinary

Its very much made for kids it is a PG Gotham, guns censored, a few explosions changed to paint etc which you would expect since its a Lego game however this can sometimes make the game and the city feel very false with a strange "diverse" population so for some reason there is someone in a wheelchair on every single street. (literally thought it was a bug) but it does make up for it with the suits, cars and references to source materials, so if your a batman fan you have plenty to find and appreciate in this game despite its PG rating.

A big point to mention which is probably my most disliked thing about the game is how its not really a classic Lego game and shares no resemblance at all imo apart from being Lego, now it does what it does well but it does not have the nostalgia of the older Lego batman games nor any sound effects from the Lego library, this I believe is due to the UE5 change. It is closer to Lego Fortnite than previous Lego titles, let me give a few examples:

Minikits are not really in the game especially not the sounds for them and the challenge of finding secrets throughout levels is about 1/3rd of the difficulty and creativity of previous games. red bricks are no longer in the game in the same sense they are basically shaders / colours for suits and most of them you will never use since they just change the whole suit to one colour most the time and they also give takedown effects and glide effects pretty minor.

It is now find 5 of these find 5 of these and sometimes find a red brick, all of which are almost always obvious to find it just makes you go through the level spending more time in areas to make sure you didn't miss anything and not all missions have secrets to find.

There is NO replayability unlike classic Lego games where you would come across something that required a character like a Sith or a small character to go through a trapdoor etc in this game this does not happen, missions are fixed with nothing you need to come back to after unlocking something or someone so if you have got all the secrets the first time there is nothing else at all to find or do unless you just want to play it again and you can only use the specific characters for that mission (no swapping).

STUDS!?! the sounds for stud pickup is different and they look weird, also no true hero or true jedi features again UE5 is definitely the reason for the sound effect changes, things like building, collecting studs, dying, breaking things and picking things up they have all been changed you might not care about this but I preferred the older ones way more. the dam purple and blue stud pickup sounds are gone :(

Exploration and events, you unlock them in a progressive manor albeit quite quickly I think in a 30 min time span a bit later in the game but the main thing that stifles and slows the free roam challenges and puzzles is needing to have the required characters for some.

/\ /\ /\
Endgame exploration can suck pretty bad. now the suit collection and things like that are fun to collect but doing the same mini game / challenges up 20 times in each zone in 5 - 6 zones with 4 different formats can get really boring and tedious. its either do this puzzle, do this slightly different puzzle or find these 3 things and match them, find and interact with 4 of these. on their own they are not bad at all and some actually require thinking and its fun if you stumble across them or just get done with a mission and see a box on your map you can get addicted to doing just one more and then your clearing out this section on the map. Its similar to the insomniac spider man system but not as good. and from what I have played there is no proper side missions or quests.

Batcave customisation is meh, set floor areas to put preset things in, some of which you can find or buy and get from getting the secrets in missions. it isn't my type of thing but it is there if you enjoy however I do like the ability to change screensavers / posters and logos that's pretty cool.

Another thing which isn't a massive deal but for me I really liked the older Lego batman games setting and how the levels would significantly change depending on the villain you where facing for example Mr freeze would be in an ice setting with a unique mechanic for that area with enemies matching the theme, lollipop and ice cream jokes a freeze weapon and in contrast the poison ivy missions would have lots of plants with greenhouses and the unique mechanic of the sonic gun to shatter glass and lots of green Lego pieces. my point is this game still has some of this but just fell short if I where to compare them personally, basically they had unique things about them but all felt like they where just in another location of the same area / theme the biggest difference was from the intro and tutorial missions to Arkham.

And one final negative I guess is it feels like the story was short, the missions are very long sometimes 30 - 50 min if you are getting collectibles but for most villains they had one mission and rarely two dedicated to them so it did leave me wishing there was more for some villains again in contrast to the older Lego batman games, but there where a lot of areas of them games where you wished they where shorter or not in the game at all lmao.

So Overall I have a lot of things I would change about this game if I could, but does that mean they should be? idk some are subjective and others aren't. There are also a few bugs. optimisation is better than expected but still not as good as older titles since its in UE5. I have seen comments about data and save loss I personally haven't experienced, I did however in the Skywalker saga encounter a game breaking soft lock which was never patched so my 40h + save file is bricked unless they randomly fix it after no updates since 2022 so its not out of the question for that to happen and wouldn't surprise me if people genuinely are losing their saves.

Despite how I might make this sound like a bad game It isn't.
With the suits you can collect it is very much like the insomniac spiderman games if you have played them. There is short descriptions on where they are from and the year it was released. There are some serious classics in here such as the original appearances, animated, comic and live action suits and cars (even the classic Lego ones), references and full blown recreations of cameos, characters, quotes and even scenes. This really is a tribute to batman material in a fun PG friendly adaptation of an Arkham game which I would recommend at least trying if your not sure. It does come at a hefty price tag and its not as content rich at the skywalker saga or the same classic Lego experience but it is its own unique Lego game and I think in that regard its not bad at all.

One thing I could see batman fans potentially not liking is the choice of movies for the villains / characters. its a mixed bag but there is so much material for characters like the joker and the Riddler etc they had to pick one or two and some might be disappointed on which they picked.

8/10 for me because Lego batman was my childhood
