The refrigerant is in a cool, vapor state in the suction line, and is sucked into the compressor to be forced into a higher pressure state, which also results in a temperature spike. From here it enters the discharge line, which feeds into the condenser coil. While traveling through the condenser, the hot, high pressure vapor refrigerant loses heat, condenses, and subsequently cools. It is in the a warm, high pressure liquid state that the refrigerant travels through the "liquid line" to the Thermal Expansion Valve, where the refrigerant begins to quickly change states into a gas, traveling through the evaporator coil, where the goal of heat absorption is achieved. From here, the refrigerant returns to the suction line, where the refrigeration cycle is allowed to begin anew.
