When I first saw the trailer for this game I got so excited, it looked amazing. Then I remembered how many games I have gotten excited for and then been so dissapointed by in recent years. Well after playing through 8 episodes, my worries were for nothing. This game was such a blast to play through. The story, the art, and gameplay all played so well together.

The new game updates are great, the new map is fun, the game looks amazing, but I cant in good conscience reccommend this game to any new people while the UI is this unusable, It took me 5 minutes to figure out how to actually get into a match, and I still came in with a half empty loadout and went solo against trios. Its borderline unusable. The only thing they needed to do was make the legendary hunter page a grid, but they remade the whole thing and it feels like navigating netflix on my 6 year old roku TV.

UPDATE: They said they are working on fixing the new UI. Until they do I am leaving this review as negative. They need to learn to do external playtesting.

UPDATE 2: The new burn rate is disgusting. It is a terrible choice to now have so many easy ways to burn a body, and only 4 ways to put one out, and to further decide that we should buff the burning side of this equation. This game isnt CoD, and it shouldnt try to be.

UPDATE 3: The UI is still just as bad, I am now just used to it and resigned to the stupid number of clicks required to get my characters up and running. I continue to play the game with my friends, but they just keep changing random things without fixing the issues and bugs the game has. I would love to feel like this is a game to recommend to people, but I need to coach each new person I introduce through how to figure out he menus and get into a match.

UPDATE 4: They have made a lot of QoL changes to the UI and the game, and it now feels much better to play, and easier to navigate for new players. They still have a lot of work to do, but it does seem like they are moving in the right direction.

Early Access Review
Valheim is a perfect example of a game studio correctly iterating the mechanics before they scale up. This game doesn't look breathtaking, the models are blocky, and thats totally okay. The gameplay is what brought me, and I have had a blast exploring the world, building out my bases, and just having fun with my friends. It is lacking a bit in the end-game content right now (I haven't played Hearth and Home yet though) but ive gotten 40+ hours of fun out of this playing with friends and family. I will happily be coming back to check out future updates and take another crack at swatting those deathsquitos out of the sky,

I have put tons of hours into elite dangerous, over a number of years. The game may be "shallow" in the depth that it forces on you, but its got so much going on and so much depth that you can create for your self. Its a simulator in the best way possible if that is something that is up your alley. Its also the best VR experience you can get in my opinion.
