In 2016, I decided to play a newly released game called "Dead By Daylight". At first, I was skeptical because it released out of nowhere by a small studio and I was never grabbed by horror games in the past. But boy did my tune change once I started playing. I remember how intimidating and heart pounding it was to be chased by the Trapper and becoming caught in his traps. I remember not paying attention to my surroundings and being jumped scared by the Wraith. I remember sitting on a generator and getting chain-sawed by a space Billy (RIP BILLY). Remember when WOW released, and you heard the horrific stories about how players were unable to stop playing? And how some players were even dying? That was me with DBD. I've put thousands of hours into this game and have seen everything. Infinite loops on Ironworks? Double window shack? Sabo'ing all hooks on the map until only basement hooks remain? Seen it. I've seen the all the releases, all the bugs that come with every patch, and all the pro/cons of the game. With that said, I can honestly say, in the bottom of my heart, that DBD is truly my favorite game of all time. I understand I'll be crucified for saying this, but it's the truth.

However, I've noticed that I've slowly grown a distaste for DBD within the last two years. And the reason's simple. The game has honestly become too easy for survivors. And I'll admit it, I'm a killer main. In early DBD, I was a survivor main, but started to notice how effortless it was to escape. Perhaps it's because I was playing with SWF? But even then, I noticed I was escaping in solo-q 95% of the time. Naturally, I became bored and decided to start making my games more interesting. I'd hop into a game and my only objective was to get as many flashlight saves as possible. Locker save? Gotcha, don't sweat it. There wasn't a save I couldn't get. You could argue players like me resulted in the creation of lightborn. After mastering the art of flashlights, I decided to turn it up a notch. I'd only go for CJs and reverses. Again, I became way too skilled at this and became disinterested. Basically, without being conceded, I considered myself a god at survivor. I was the embodiment of the "seal team 6" survivor. I could loop killers for 5 gens, get any flashlight angle, and crank out gens if needed to. I'm sure none of you believe me, but my friends and the players I was in lobbies with knew. If I had been streaming or recording, you wouldn't be saying "I wish I was good as 72hrs, Angry Pug, or Ayrun, at looping". You'd be saying my name instead. But that's a story for a different time.

Anyways, since I became bored at survivor, I decided to give killer a shot. Going in, I expected to 4k every match. I knew everything about survivor so how hard could it be? Boy was I wrong. I was struggling to down a survivor even at unsafe loops like you'd see on Hawkins, let alone shack. I quickly faced reality after being humbled many times. Due to this, I joined the DBD discord and attempt to pick the brains of other killer mains. While many of them helped me, most of them recommended me to watch a content creator by the name of "Otzdarva". I was skeptical since I preferred more hands-on type of learning rather than visual or auditory learning. but was quickly proven wrong once again. To put simply, I wouldn't be the killer I am today without Otz. I've watched all his quick killer guides, best killer builds, and 50-win streak videos more times than I can count. And don’t even get me started on his FAQ.. There was even a point where I started watching his videos before bed because studies showed that studying before bedtime could result in understanding and retaining information longer. Instinctively, I eventually picked up on a lot of strategies he deployed in game. I learned to moon-walk and hide my red stain in chase, learned when and how to use your M2 ability, learned how each map could work in your favor depending on the killer. As time went on, I was enjoying how much I was improving at killer. I was and never will be at the level of Otzdarva, Tru3talent, or TricksterShadow but I know I could hold my ground. And honestly, I know I could 1k or 2k most tournament teams if I had to.

Memes aside..

I’m disappointed with the current state of the game and here’s why:

- Meta on both sides has become stale.
- BHVR, for the most part, can’t design a fun killer that doesn’t have mobility. This has led to most new killers becoming anti-loop killers with little map pressure. Unaspiring killer design and boring for both sides to play.
- BHVR takes years to implement basic common-sense changes. Just look at Trapper, the poster boy of the game. It took almost five years to receive a buff that anybody in the community could’ve told you to make.
- Like the previous point, changes to perks take months to even consider tweaking. And there’s not really an excuse for this. BHVR simply has to change the numerical values for these perks and throw them on PTB to see if they’re practical or not. Even experimenting with perks could lead to changes in the current meta. Instead, they continue to release mediocre and useless perks.
- SBMM/MMR is a joke. If you watched the most recent DBD Q&A, it’s not hard to see why. BHVR essentially correlates “skill” with how often you escape as a survivor and how many kills you get as a killer. If you loop a killer for 3-4 generators, but get face camped/tunneled to death, you’d still lose MMR under this system. And the same applies for killer. Even if you finish chases relatively quick but the team is super-efficient, you’re still penalized for doing your task correctly. There’s way too many variables that influence escapes and kills. In no world, should skill be equated to either.
- The fun part in DBD has always been the chases and mind-games involved. Instead of making chases more fun and enjoyable for both sides, BHVR has stated they want survivors to sit on generators and escape as fast as possible. Sure, fun is subjective, and everyone has a different opinion on what makes something fun. However, most players who’ve played since 2016 know cranking out gens has never been what makes DBD fun. It feels like BHVR is prioritizing new players who find this fun. Again, a lot of this can be tied back to my previous complaints.
- Game is built on spaghetti code. Every patch or update breaks the game. Been like this for years.
- No competition or incentives for BHVR to change anything.

Sorry for this essay but I wanted to make this review somewhat decent. I understand the developers at BHVR love DBD like most of us, but there’s only so much leeway you can give. I look at other patch notes for bigger games and often must scroll for ages just to read everything. Meanwhile for DBD, it’s usually just a few paragraphs that can be read quickly. I watched the Q&A yesterday and they talked a lot about “not having enough time” as a reason for a lot of this. However, I’m not sure what’s taking so much time considering the game doesn’t receive many big patches/changes outside of new DLC. I hope the newest mid-chapter is sign that BHVR is changing, but the Q&A doesn’t seem to suggest that. At this point, I’m honestly looking for a new game to play. I’m hoping VHS is that game and can motivate BHVR to step it up. Until a game proves they can compete with DBD, I don’t believe DBD will ever change for the better. And because of that, I wouldn’t recommend this game unless you have loads of time and LOVE the horror genre.

TLDR: ♥♥♥♥ BHVR plus memes

Shock me Daddy.

No foreal though, love this new killer and survivor. Map is alright in my opinion. Dead by Daylight finally feel fresh this year with the bug fixes, previous DLC this year, and finally the big DLC we were all waiting for. Let's hope the developers keep up this work. The idea of this game is something brand new, fun , and original. All we need are some hard working developers, and it looks like they've been stepping it up this year.

After hearing a lot about Mirror's Edge(especially on FunHaus) I decided to buy it on sale. About 5 hours into the game I can say that it is a great game. The story is short, but still very interesting. For a game released in 2009 the graphics are amazing even for today's standards. The controls and movements are also great. Props to Dice for creating one of the best,if not best, parkour action games out there. The only thing lacking IMO is that the story is short and there are no achievements for this game. Saying that I still think this game is very well polished and a great game. I cannot wait to play the new Mirror's Edge coming out.
