Post 100% review: My GOTY for 2025, the blending of genres that gaming as a whole needs in order to innovate and progress, not stagnate. The level design of the entire map, for an survival crafting game no less, is a masterclass. This game makes Dark Souls' level design look amateur. The progression is amazing, pulling a lot of inspiration from Terraria in terms of this as well as armor and weapon balance/design. Base building is very unique, and innovating by scaling down instead of gaining complexity allows the genres to flow nicely, and allows an ABSURD amount of playstyles and replay value by itself (which sounds weird but it is more intuitive than you would think). The atmosphere is impeccable. Absolute cinema in terms of setpieces, which ties in to the level design. The music is great. Not stellar but hits all the right marks, hits when you want it to and isn't too overwhelming.

The amount of content is absurd, the scope of the game is large, and the tone rarely skips a beat. In my 1.0 full run, it took 65 hours from beginning to end, skipping some side content and a lot of base building/tidying I would normally do if I wasn't trying to actually beat it. Abiotic Factor is like a Russian Nesting Doll, keeps surprising you with how much is actually there, and then what's hiding under the surface. The base story is good, not fantastic. Fun, keeps you intrigued most of the time. However, the lore and data entries send this above and beyond, as log-based storytelling FITS with the game and setting.

There are a couple of (spoiler-y) missteps, but nothing that genuinely detracted from my experience. The biggest one however is how public lobbies are handled, and the problems are the kind you could expect. People stealing stuff and disconnecting, weird disconnects sometimes, overall differences in experience levels depending on where in the game you're at. However, I don't think public lobbies in this kind of game are super popular anyways.

Overall, get this game. It's the opposite of corpo slop. It's a genuinely fantastic game, not made to steal your money, but to exchange your money for a exquisite gaming experience. It reawakened that feeling I've been chasing for years and years. That excitement and genuine enjoyment when playing a game. I have never booted up Abiotic Factor because I was just bored. I always *wanted* to play Abiotic Factor. I still want to play it.

By Azura, By Azura, By Azura! The performance is not good at all, simple as that. With the recommended specs almost exactly (have an i9 9900k and a 2080 Super), I cannot get the game to run over 20 FPS, no matter what I do. The lowest settings, on downscaled 1080p as I'm running a 1440p monitor, and testing Ultra Perf on DLSS and FSR, it physically cannot happen. And not to mention that, turning on DLSS and the like will make the game look absolutely ugly, to an unacceptable degree. That's coming from someone who uses DLSS whenever my grubby hands can. I hope I'm part of an outlier situation, but even if so, this has to get fixed.

In my opinion, it speaks volumes when 8% of all people who bought this game on here have acquired every achievement, when most AAA games today can't even get that amount of people to beat the game. This game is fun in it's purest form. I haven't smiled and laughed at a game like this in years I don't think.
