Helldivers 2 is a great game, regardless of whether you play it with friends or with randoms. The ever changing galactic war with an evolving narrative is a fun, fresh take on the live service game genre and their version of a "battle pass" is better than most other iterations of the feature in that you can earn the currency to unlock them just by playing the game.

We must remain vigilant against SNOY attempting to force PSN on us again, though!

I've been searching for a game like this for years. I played Freelancer years ago and this game comes close to capturing the feel of it while providing all the depth I wish that Freelancer had. (Capital ships, station building, a more dynamic economy, etc)

As others have said, the learning curve is huge, but core mechanics of ship piloting is simple enough that it's "pick up and play." It's the systems beyond simple exploring and dogfighting that contribute to the steep curve, but they can be tackled at ones' own pace and the community on Egosoft's Discord server are very helpful at pointing newbies in the right direction.

I'm deaf, so I was wary of trying this game, since my inability to use voice chat usually leaves me feeling like I am holding my team back. I gave it a try on the free weekend a while back and had a blast playing it, even though I didn't really know what I was doing. Voice chat probably helps on the higher difficulties, but I've still been able to complete missions on those difficulties and the community on Discord is great. Other players there are always willing to play with me.

Each class is fun to play, the guns (along with their various customizations) are unique enough to keep things fresh, and there are plenty of cosmetics to hunt to customize your dwarf. The fact that the game is continually being updated with even more stuff to collect is the cherry on top of an already great game.

I was going to return to this game and play during Crimefest, but the new microtransaction system completely changed my mind.

I never had a problem with paying for the DLC, especially the new heists, but locking stat boosts behind a gambling system tied to real-world money is an absolutely terrible idea.
