Sweet. The graphics could be better but overall the game is good. Worth a buy.

Ok. So I gave the game a negative review because of some gripes I had.

It seems they fixed making purchases when using the Steam version although I did make an account and try to link it which was a pain. I think that is a bad system. If we buy on Steam then that's all we should need. But that is my opinion.

Character creation:
I still think "body type" is dumb in a character creation. There is only male and female in reality. Anyway, my character which was female looked better in the character creation than when in game. I used the Ai feature to help create her. Overall, the character creation was full featured. You can customize quite a bit but you can't do much for the chest and butt unfortunately.

Now my thoughts on the game:

1. Free to Play: You can play the whole game as far as I know. But...

This is a typical free to play Asian game with fairly high in game store prices which supports the game's longevity. But it seems that these companies are at least yielding some to the players by giving heavy discounts on some things and allowing people to buy some decent stuff with currency you earn through the game. That is a move in the right direction. If you at least give people a chance to buy then the game is getting support. But locking a majority out of the store because of high prices then you just get the rich people or gamblers. Making things more accessible for all is better.

"Loot boxes" are still in the game though. If you want the real premium stuff you will pay dearly. Oh well, you can't have everything.

Note: There are still many things behind pay walls. Like being able to change the outfit color which I think is kind of dumb. But as I said already they do have sales on many things frequently.
The Battle-pass will get you currency and some free stuff which is not too bad. I'd start with that if you are on the poorer side. Don't be ashamed. You are alive. Life is better than money.

2. Open World:
The game is primarily open world which I love. You run from point to point in a region and pick up quests, talk to Ai, find chests, puzzles, and dungeons, practice arenas, and other interesting things as you travel. There are big bosses here and there but just be sure you are high enough to fight them or they will squash you. I went a little too far off region and a duck almost killed me. Therefore, there is a limit to your exploration. Stick with the main quest and region for your level.

3. Combat:
The combat I don't have much to say about. I am in stpry-mode with assistance. I really don't like complexity in games. I just want to shoot, kick or whack with easy dodge. As of this writing the assistance is making combat rather easy as it is telling me when to dodge and knock down. But that might change when i have my challenge or whatever to get to the next uptick in being a master. Some people like hard challenge. I do not. I just want to play and have fun running around. But that is me. I am glad at least for now I can enjoy the game on easy mode just to chill. When I get much higher I'll give my thoughts on the higher challenges.

4. Graphics:
If you have a good graphics card the game will look very nice at Ultra settings with high fps. As you turn settings down though the game looks worse and worse. Note: I play at 4k or Ultra Wide usually. I noticed too when restarting the game it sometimes puts everything back to default and then FSR. I had to put the ( -dx12 ) command in the steam command line of the game settings. I am not sure about FSR quality. I only have NVIDIA gpus.

I am using an RTX 5070. Intel 13700k, with 64 GB RAM playing the game right now at 5120x2880.
I will post my settings here:

https://v1.steam.hlxgame.cc/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3639936522

I am not sure about FSR quality. I only have NVIDIA gpus.

Overall, I am enjoying the game as I am free to roam and engage who and what I want but if that changes then I may just drop the game altogether. For now I am happy.

For now I give the game a 7/10.

This is a fighting game but it also is very cozy feeling.
The music is nice and the world is visually appealing.
You can get free outfits and other enjoyable stuff by playing the game.
The combat controls for K/M are a little clunky but that is not unusual for this type of game.
You can use many different abilities while playing and change out spells at will as you want to use them.
The story is fine and the graphics are great if you have a decent GPU.
There are plenty of settings to adjust graphics.
Character customization is very good. You can bring in your own facial picture to play as yourself in game or use another real life person to play as.
There are handy Ai tools to make your character.

Overall I like the game. I give it a 8/10 easily.

The game is mid. 5/10 at best. My specs are Intel 13700k/ RTX 3090/ 32 GB DDR5/ Win 11. I was playing at 4k. Locked 60fps/1% lows 60fps. Smooth as butter. But there was some textures that were still popping in at times which was annoying.

Positives:
Atmosphere is good.
Background music is peaceful. At least in the starting areas.
Graphics are old looking but tolerable. Although adding some better shadows or ray tracing would be awesome.

Negatives:
Controls are not intuitive
Character runs awkward
Character creator is not at all interesting and has body types instead of male and female.
Pre-made characters are mostly horrible looking. No real feminine look. Dare I say more?
No real character customization as usual with games that claim to be inclusive. This game has the same hypocrisy as other woke game developers.

The store outfits are not that great looking and the best one overall was very expensive. That happened to be the one outfit that had pronounced boobs. A little feminine quality. Could that be coincidental?
Overall the store prices are too high for what is in it.

In conclusion I can tolerate some woke aspects of a game but without a fully customizable character this game to me is nonexistent. And add on top of that nothing in the store was really worth looking at just makes it worse.

But that is my opinion. All the hype for this game was just that. It is nothing special in my book.

Although if you have a crappy computer and want to play something this will likely run on it. So I guess that is something this game can offer.

Update:
I was able to use another PC and play the game with no issues. That was a fresh install of everything except Windows 11. But on my main PC the game is still broken no matter what I do. I did all the fixes I could do. Every other game runs fine on my main PC that I play. But Avatar still says some kind of DX issue or something. I am not happy with that. Main PC specs are RTX 4090, Ryzen 7900x, and 32GB RAM, Win 11 Pro.

But I can play the game with my secondary system with an RTX 5070 and Intel 13700k with 64GB RAM, Win 11 Pro.

The game isn't bad but it is the typical Ubisoft open world game with a different skin. Which isn't bad for me as I like open world games but it does get meh.

Graphically the game is very beautiful at Ultra settings or with ray tracing. DLSS quality is a must in my opinion as the AA looks better in DLSS mode. In my opinion. To play at the highest settings though you will need a beefy gpu.

For now I will give the game a positive with my old gripes. The game isn't worth the full price imo. Wait for a good super sale on the game with all DLCs. Then I think it is a buy but that depends on how much you like Avatar. :)

My rating on my RTX 5070 system is 7/10.

Old review:
My game time is zero on Steam. The time is the exe running in the background.
My game is not playable.
I either get the directx error message saying I am not up to date when I am or when I click play it (the exe) runs in the background but I get no game window.
Steam won't give me a refund and Ubisoft after 2 months has no fix. I am out $50.
I am not happy to say the least.

When gamers buy a game it should just work. We shouldn't have to go out of our way to try to find fixes.

And before anyone gets smart my PC is no slouch. RTX 4090/Ryzen 7900x/32 GB DDR5 RAM/Win 11 Pro

All the other games I play run.

Hellish. Adult oriented. Gross. A bit clunky. DLCs are ok. Game runs so so. The game when it works is ok to play if what I mentioned previously is what you are into.

This is not for kids.

I wish there was a "middle of the road" choice for rating.

I'll give it a thumbs up because I think the developers were trying for a more mainstream adult game rather than just adult porn period even though you could label this that to some extent. There is actually an action game here to play. When it works well. Each PC system will probably give very different performance.

Most recent review update: Still a recommend

Ok. So the game has gotten better and better, in my opinion. No more wait times to get in game once you are on a server.

They still have the server wipes at the end of each season but you get to keep a lot of your stuff and stuff you bought with real money. You keep your character too but they start at level 1 at the start of the next season. Which is not that bad.

I like leveling up. You don't have to do the quest line to level if you don't want to. You can choose at the beginning of the season whether you want to free roam stuff (higher zones are locked until the game unlocks them every 2 weeks or so each season) or you can follow the quest line which will lock you out of stuff until you do them. The normal progression.

Once Human is one of my all time favorite games though after months of playing. I hope they add more content over time but they are doing festivals and special events frequently. I love just riding around the world and perfecting my house and collecting deviants.

I am having fun. You get a lot of stuff just by playing the game too which is nice compared to many other games. Sure, there is a shop but the developers can't work without pay. People should stop complaining about item shops.

If you like cosmetics for your character and home they are out of this world. In my opinion. They have good sales too if you are tight on cash but want to grab an outfit here and there.
The battle pass has two levels. A partial and full. The partial gives you a free outfit and sometimes other lesser outfits or clothes. The full gives you even more nice items and stuff. Therefore, if you don't have much extra money to spend you can unlock the first level "now" and then the full level "later". First level is $10 or so and the full would be an extra $13. But the first level is well worth the support of the game with what you get.

Either way the Once Human team is doing things mostly right for gamers. The game is fun. Building is fun but can be annoying in some respects but that is every Unreal 5 game I played with building. Buying stuff in shop is non stressful in my opinion. And the devs are adding other stuff for people to do.

There are loot boxes but that is the super minority of the store. It's great stuff but there is also enough stuff in the regular "buy now" part of the store. You don't need the loot boxes. But they are there if you have money to burn. And they guarantee an item after so many rolls. I think.

Loot box outfit example: https://v1.steam.hlxgame.cc/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3410713200

There is plenty of PVE and PVP stuff to do. But I am not up to speed on PVP as I just play PVE coop.

For a free to play game Once Human is a great FPS to jump into to have fun solo or with friends.I am not sure why there is grumblings about it.

How does the game run now? Much better than it did originally but Unreal 5 engine is not low end GPU friendly.

But the game supports FSR and DLSS which can help lower end systems play the game at better performance.

My systems that I use for the game are as follow:

RTX 3080 laptop at 1080p and 1440p: runs good with DLSS Quality High settings

RTX 2080ti/9900k at 4k High settings DLSS Performance runs at a steady 60+fps on my 4k TV

RTX 3090/13700k at 4k runs well over 60fps with DLSS quality

RTX 4090/Ryzen 7900x at (7680 x 1440) max settings DLSS Quality locked 120fps with no problems.

In certain areas of the game there can be some stutters but over all the game runs "ok".

After some updates things get buggy but the devs seem to try to address them as soon as possible.

Happy gaming !!! Have fun !!!

Updated review:

Note: You may have to wait in line to get in game. But today, the day of writing this review, my sons and I were able to get right in. No waiting.

The game is seasonal. You get to keep what you buy in store and your estate if you store that in the outer zone, "Eternaland", after the season ends.

Game is fun in PVE. Especially with friends. I don't do PVP.

You can power level and get bored at end game I guess. Therefore, take it slow and enjoy the game. You can do the regions over and over each day.

Crafting is fairly easy to learn. Getting materials is fairly easy. Get lots of copper to start. Like 3000 and 3000 wood.

Put your Digbys to work right away. You get them by mining Silver and Tin. They will get you ores and some iron early if you put your estate near a higher level area with lots of stone and ore deposits.

Graphics are good although I am playing at Super Ultrawide with a 4090 and there is quite a bit of stutter at the time of this review. It varies by location. The devs said they are working on it.

By simply playing you get a lot of free items. Get the battle pass if you want some decent other items and perks.

The game store is pretty fair although I wish prices were a bit lower. But there is a good selection of items to buy.

Overall I like the game in it's free to play state. Except performance.

My rating is 7/10.

I have plenty of videos on Steam and my YouTube channel if you want to see the game. There isn't much difference from the beta as far as I can tell. There is just the store now and some other stuff that is active now.

If you have more questions just ask below. Have fun. Peace.

Newest thoughts:

I am mixed still in my feelings.

The game itself is "fun" and a lot more content has been added by the looks of it.

That being said, the game is still very grindy (a little better now though as far as fun factor) but still extreme.
The store prices are still horrible. That is why I am keeping the negative review. Why keep people from spending money? It is better to get $10 once or twice a month than none. Give some good bargain sales for outfits. Or just make some bargain outfits that still look sexy/nice.

I rate games based upon time versus reward. This game has rewards for effort (grind) but it is just too extreme in my opinion.

None the less the game is free to play so that helps TFD case. Only that though.

Try it to see if you like it. Play it until you get bored.

Older simple review:

The game play and story is fine but the grind is not.

There is coop play in this game either by grouping or just doing the zones as people drop in.

The characters are fine too although how you make your character stronger is a bit complicated for me.

I have no problem with some grind but to have to spend a crazy amount of time and money getting even normal stuff is not very fun.

There will be people who say I am dumb or it's not for me. But that is not true. I like the core game as far as combat and story goes. I don't mind spending some money but not be forced to do it because I am bored or irritated.

As I said in my first iteration of the review the amount of grind and waiting for stuff to be made just takes the fun out of the game.

Once Human has a great model. You get a lot of good stuff just playing and the premium stuff you have to buy which I am fine with. The season pass in that game is better too.

There is a season pass in TFD too. I guess that is fine to get some stuff. But looking at it it still isn't worth paying for because you still need to do a lot of grind and purchasing to advance even just cosmetically.

My whole reason for playing these kinds of grindy games is making my character look better. Having nice gun skins is great too but the grind is not what keeps me coming back. How I am rewarded for my time does.

I don't know if that all makes sense but that my take.

To be honest I will come back and play TFD a little here and there but I am not dumping my money into this one. Maybe an outfit or two. That is it.
Once Human will get that because I get a lot more for my time and money and a lot more fun I think.

Played coop with my son. So far the game is fun and similar to Pay Day. The bots seem better than Pay Day 2 bots for sure.

On the promo sale Crime Boss: RC is a steal. I paid $16 for the game and release DLC at the time of this review.

That's how you lure me in.

Game is 5 stars in my opinion just because everything seems to work so far.

FYI: The shaders may take time to compile so wait for it if the game seems to be frozen when you first get in. Mine took 5 minutes when using a very high resolution.

Graphics are decent.

My specs were 4090/ Ryzen 7900x / 32GB DDR 5 RAM
I had super wide resolution and was getting 90 fps on max settings with DLAA or DLSS Quality.

FOV goes really high which is great if you need that.

One last thing: there is a lot of profanity in the game. More or less depending on the person you play or people you play with or which NPCs are talking.

If you have kids and don't mind some violence which is in nearly every game but do not prefer your kids learning more language than a dictionary than this might be much for them.

Here is a first play video. I'm not that good but having fun. It is Ultrawide. Select 4k on Youtube.
