Honestly this is one of, if not, the worst WW2 FPS games available on Steam for a number of reasons:

Grenade spam: There are a stupid amount of grenades available to all factions within the game which will one shot players. Not only does this leave the infantry at a disadvantage, but there are also grenades that 2 shot tanks, yes, 2 shot. Combine this with the recon class who is able to spawn in a bike everytime they spawn and you can motorbike to every tank in the match and destroy it within 2 minutes. There is literally no way to combat this once they have gotten within range, which is very easy. The only thing you can do is press E and hope you get out in time but then you will most likely be taken out by a 1 shot to the leg by a sniper which bring me onto the second point.

Weapon damage: This game plays like Battlefield if it had the damage of DayZ weapons. A number of weapons can be modified to kill in 1 shot at any range to the body, most of which being snipers. Normally this wouldnt be a problem if there were a limited amount of these per team, but Germany is infamous for having the whole team have this. This leaves every other team at a disadvantage because not only do the weapons do less damage, they are signifcantly less accurate, you could be aiming straight at an enemy and miss 3 shots before hitting them because of random bullet spread which does not apply to these snipers. I should also mention that every weapon in the game will instant kill with a headshot which questions why the developers took a realistic approach to the damage model whilst making the game play out like an arcade shooter. An example of a game which does this right is PUBG, which allows the user to kill most enemies with a headshot with a sniper, but bodyshots will do 1/3 of their health at most. In Heroes and Generals, youy could get shot in the finger or toe and still instant die, which is very common within the game. And moving onto the biggest problem within H and G...

Pay to win: Microtransactions. That is literally what this game could be summed up with in a single word. Want to spend days or weeks on end grinding to unlock that sniper? Ha lol why would you do that when you can just pay £10 and gain access to that straight away hell, just buy everything straight off the bat. I unfortunatley fell victim to this and paid for a numerous amount of tanks on the Russian faction, only to be severly disappointed by the terrible damage model that vehicles have. Germany always wins. German tanks cannot be beaten head on hell even side on. All tanks can take 2-3 shots before being destroyed. Combine this with slow movement and recon soldiers on tanks and you literally have the most disappointing game you have ever played. Because of the microtransactions this actually lead me to believe that EA had bought this game. They would have been proud of the amount of microtransactions.

Firmly I can say that Heroes and Generals is a mish mash of the worst parts of the FPS genre combined into one single lump of absoloute garbage that only the most niche of audiences can appreciate, even then they are still ashamed they are giving this game attention. I can however say this, the game can redeem themselves if the developers look into the issues that the community have pointed out and fix them, instead of pulling another EA and just continuing on their way adding more weapons that you can buy with ££££, the only language game devs seem to understand. If you want a game with good arcade style combat, buy Battlefield 1 or CoD WW2. If you want an excellently made vehicle combat game, try War Thunder which is free and has both air and ground vehicle combat with accuratley designed models that portrays how tanks should work here. If you want a realistic combat game, try Day of Infamy or Arma 3. Arma has WW2 style mods which work as intended whilst Day of Infamy provides you with fast paced, realistic combat without the tanks or pay to win, in fact.

Even with the amount of hours I have poured (wasted) on this game, I was still hopeful that one day the devs would listen and fix the issues that have plagued the game since launch. But finally I have snapped and lost all hope that this game would improve, after nearly 2 years of hoping. Even though it is free, I would still not reccomend this game to a friend or anyone in fact. Honestly, I would just wait for 2 games which have taken this concept and executed those in a much better fashion. Those titles are Hell let loose, a fantastic looking WW2 FPS developed in Unreal 4 and Batallion 1944 which again, is just an improved version of this game.
