Lesser version of Left 4 Dead, in my opinion, but fun game none-the-less. I enjoy playing this game, with friends OR randoms honestly. It's a lot of fun, even if it can be frustrating at time. Overcoming the obstacles the game throws at you does feel good, even if not really rewarding. And it is very fun to come up with strategies with friends to beat the harder difficulties. And it does feel incredibly fun when you get to your full "build" and just start slaughtering things. Watching someone with a full melee build just run up to a tallboy and slap them into space is pretty hilarious honestly.

The gameplay feels alright, but makes me miss how great it was in L4D. The special "ridden" don't feel special when there's 3 variations of each type, that more or less do/look the same. The ending feels like it's only there for spectacle. And the mini-bosses all feel like non-issues. The ogre is so big it's easy to just kind of... ignore. It gets caught on terrain too easily, and the biggest treat of it appearing is it also summons a horde. The breaker is easy enough to deal with as long as it's not the first thing you run into coming into the first level of an act (looking at you 2-1-1). The card system is really lame honestly. I figured it'd be randomized so that it's a little more interesting, but instead, you make a list, and cycle through it the same way every time. It feels very unimportant to be implemented the way it was, and might as well have just been a perk system at the start of every level. Calling it a card/deck system seems like it's just that because it "sounded cool" and unlocking new (better) cards by playing so you can go back to Fort Waste-my-time to waste your time.

tl;dr: Fun game with issues. Play with like-minded friends for maximum fun.

First off, let's get started with saying Monster Hunter World is a pretty fantastic game. I loved monster hunter since the third generation. I have always enjoyed it from that point, and I feel like World, while very different in some ways, is still very much Monster Hunter. It has some improvements to keep the game fluid, like quick gathering points, moving while drinking potions, and such like that, but it's Monster Hunter gameplay at it's core. It can be tedious at times still, unskippable cutscenes, boring "fights" with a mountain of a monster, tracking down the "???" Rathian. But even with those downsides, it's still a very enjoyable game.

If you've read a lot of reviews lately, you'll likely have seen a plethora of complaints about connection issues. This doesn't really reflect the game in my opinion, as they don't really seem to happen as much as people want to say, and they're seemingly not even happening at all anymore. I know this is anecdotal evidence but I personally haven't even seen a disconnect in my lobby or any lobby I've joined in about a week. The worth that happens anymore is not being able to join a session, which is usually quickly and easily solved by remaking it, which takes all of 3 seconds, unless the people you want to join are in a hunt. It's really not as bad as people want to say it is.

But even with the downsides and disconnection issues that seem to be getting solved, Monster Hunter World is still a great game, the fights are super fun in most cases, and all the weapon types are fun to play. It's a game about fighting giant monsters and becoming stronger as a player by learning how to defeat your opponent. It may not be for everyone, but if you like the high fantasy of fighting dragons and dinosaurs, or you like gathering loot to make better gear, or even like to just run around with friends in a crazy panic as Anjanath eats your buddy, and flinging poop at it to make it stop, then Monster Hunter world is going to be at least some amount of fun for you. If you don't feel like buying it at least TRY it if you have a friend with the game.

This game was awesome back in beta, if you got past the bugs, and terrible optimization. Since release it's done nothing good to elevate itself in the field of gaming that it "pioneered" (supposedly). It's not a great game, it's idea has become stale, and it's just not fun anymore. The "event pass" is not worth 10 bucks, the micro transaction thing for skins will always be stupid to me (personal opinion here), and I'm honestly kind of sad I spent money even buying this game, as I haven't even launched it since Feb, and none of the updates have made me want to come back. You'd probably do best finding something else worth 30 bucks to play, or if you REALLY want to play BR games, go do something like fortnite before blue hole gets them shut down.
