I have used Blender now over 1,5 years and i have to say that there are more Pros and a few Cons BUT the cons exist and they are worth mentioning.
First, let's answer the question is Blender a good software and worth downloading?
You should definitive give it a try it's a good free alternative to Maya or Hudini.
But now to the Pros and Cons:
Pros

• Due to the fact that it's available on Steam now you can auto-update it without deleting the old version and downloading the new one.
  
• It's a professional software for free!
  
• You can render things even if you have a sh*tty computer from the stone age by using online Renderfarms.
  
• There are many many maaaany Ad-dons out there to improve Blender even more!
  Now to the advanced stuff
  
• Rigging is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ easy (in my opinion)
  
• If you know how everything works you can get an amazing workflow
  
• Texturing has never been simpler and it gets even simpler with a few FREE Ad-dons
  
• Blender has really good modeling tools.

And now the Cons

• The interface is for beginners too much
  
• It takes quite a while to get used to the Key shortcuts etc. (but that is a Con in every Software like Blender)

Now i hope i could help you with this review and remember:
DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER.
Most of the Bad reviews are from people which where complaining about the complexity of the program and had it just used for 1-3 hours. You have to spend quite some time to master this amazing software but when you mastered it then it will be so easy to model a landscape etc. Trust me i invested a lot of time in Blender (maybe a little too much) , but it was worth.

11/10 so f*cking worth.
