From 1940 to 1991, Estonia was under Soviet occupation, during which large numbers of ethnic Russians moved to the republic. Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the Russia-Ukraine War have left many Estonians nervous that Russia might try to reoccupy Estonia or annex parts of the country.
