Writing this review as a negative really hurts me... but I just got to write it.

I haven't touched the game in three months, which is really sad because Monster Hunter was one of those core games I have played since Monster Hunter Freedom on the PSP. Wilds somehow was a major disappointment, better than Rise, but frankly it missed the mark completely for what I felt was promised.

What I didn't see coming from the beta was just how weak all the monsters are, its almost like they did not compensate for buffing all the weapons with the wound mechanic on top of more fluid attack patterns. There is very little challenging content because the game didn't drop with higher rank quests, and its mostly just a straight dash through a story I care very little about. Maybe my opinion is kind of wild here, but I don't pick up a Monster Hunter title for a cinematic story. Making this game focus solely on a cinematic story sucked so much of the fun of picking up a quest and fighting things your way.

When I do come to play a Monster Hunter title, I want to have a challenge, I want something to work towards which makes fighting certain monsters my next goal to beat the next. The game play loop of slay a monster, build armor and weapon, fight stronger monster, repeat is the bread and butter of a Monster Hunter game.

This game missed this mark.

What I got was very little consequences for the actions or hunts I chose. I could beat the hardest monsters available using cheap, un-upgraded gear because the wound system allows you to flinch the monster repetitively and get free hits in very consecutively. Most hunts were over in like 10 minutes, after hunting a monster 4-5 times it got really boring with how much of a push over they were. The entire game just feels too easy and lacking in rich content.

Multiplayer instead of making the monster harder makes it laughably easier as they flinch and fail to stand up for themselves. There was nothing worth challenging as a group at all.

The old system formula of grabbing a quest and charging some mysterious monster felt so much more fun and engaging than following an angsty kid upset about a once extinct species being mean to his family. I couldn't connect or care about any of the story characters, and my investment of the story was hoping it would end quicker so I could take on harder quests. To my surprise, there was very little content post game.

Then I see updates coming out which promise stuff that more or less should have just been included at launch. I don't want to wait for higher rank, I don't want to wait for one monster to drop at a time so I can kill it 5 times in one hour and be finished until next month.

I will say, I did have fun, the 40 hours I did play as of writing this were still enjoyable, but it just left a lot to be desired. I have hundreds of hours in World, and even on my old PSP games I had hundreds upon hundreds of hours of content to go through. This game didn't even have anything worthwhile after the story, and the tempered monster barely scale the difficulty as well. I think this is one of the best looking Monster Hunters, and the world felt rich and beautiful, its just everything else about the game play and content loop felt shallow and uninteresting since the game went all in on a cinematic story when Monster Hunter has never been known for its story.

Beat my expectations with the acting and animations. Probably one of my favorite iterations of Mechwarrior combat wise, having heat disable weapons over a shut down feels a lot better for piloting reasons.

My only qualms with the game is that the missions tend to get a little repetitive gameplay wise and don't make the player think about anything else besides having the most tonnage possible. In the end game you're pretty much pushed to use 5 Direwolf's or else the late missions would be near impossible.

The difficulties are also wack, at some point near the 75% mark of the story when the dropships come into play I had to turn the difficulty down to "Story mode" to even progress, and even then I won barely. Your AI squadmates barely hold their weight a lot of the time, and even on story mode many would fall eventually just from the sheer fire power thrown at you by the enemy forces. Also LRM's just always run out of ammo too quickly and deal so little damage its just not worth running them (even though they are some of my favorite weapons).

Overall the game was a solid 7/10, satisfied my Battletech lore itch, but was lacking in game play diversity and a reason to run anything but the heaviest mechs you had available. I look forward to the DLC

Best co-op 4 player shooter in a long while. Game is packed full of everything it needs to succeed.

Thank you for listening to the players.

Very cute game by an amazing artist! I have loved hcnone's OC for years now and I am glad I got to see them in their very own game!

Cute game, neat system to make items, combat was alright but perfect for the overall collecting items and farming theme. Really laid back game to coast along with. My only gripe I suppose was that combat was very easily overcome and rarely ever needed use of the later game combat skills as fights were either too easy or too difficult. If they were too difficult, you just make better items and steam roll it. Oh and gem reduction is such a pain when you have to manually click every item to reduce to gems, it can take like 500+ presses of my A button just to get enough gems to make some duplicates of items.

The overall story took me about 28 hours to complete, and farming all the achievements was about 53 hours.

Watch Edgerunners! Game is fun too, ran into a few bugs here that halt progress a few times still, but the core game still runs well.

Save often before major missions or gigs and you should be fine.

I wasn't a huge fan of Dark Souls type games, just never really interested me to play personally, but they were always fun to watch others play. However, this game is absolutely changes that. The open world is vast and was designed purely for exploring without much direction, every session I'm finding something that sparks my interest and are usually rewarded from it too. Also hands down easily the best open world game I've ever played so far; The depth of the map, combat, and art direction is all just top quality stuff and proves games can still exist and do well without heavy hand holding and microtransactions everywhere. Game runs perfectly fine on my 1070ti and haven't ran into any bugs or hindering game play aspects yet either. Solid game, 10/10

Oh, it's been over a year since this game was officially released. I was naive when I purchased the game in alpha some 7 years ago thinking it would turn into something like Minecraft did, and after seeing it abandoned past the first alpha instantly made me realize this game would never exist as it was supposed to be marketed as. The dev blames anxiety after the sharp lash back of the alpha and being a perfectionist that the game never got regular updates, but in reality I don't think he ever made an extensive plan on what to work on and instead opted to work in a complete vacuum without any outside input. Instead, it became more like an gigantic cash grab aimed at gamers looking for the next big open world, procedural generated adventure game.

I tried Cube World once it was released on Steam just to get my final opinion, and all the changes made from the alpha are so utterly terrible that I can't find any reason to call this game fun or even worth purchasing. The release was built on such poorly thought out design changes that nothing was changed for the better in the end, and honestly the alpha had more content and progression than the final release of the game. Wolfram von Funck is up there in the list of worst indie game developers of the 2010's right along side Yandere Dev.

This game can be summed up as Vaporware at this point, and I don't see it ever being improved upon in any significant way in the future. Avoid at all costs.

Incredibly well written story! Game will immediately grab your attention, and will make you second guess yourself every step of the way. A must play for anyone who loves sci-fi and philosophical themes!
