If you're thinking of picking up this game as a cool co-op game for you and your friends to get into, I can't recommend it. This will seem strange, since I have nearly 450 hours in the game, but here goes.

You may have read many reviews from others in the community (and have probably seen the stories and the videos) about the way OVERKILL completely disregarded their community and added utterly unnecessary microtransactions to the game. What you need to understand is that this is just the tipping point - frustration in the community has been brewing for a long, long time. I'd like to address what really makes this game eternally frustrating.

OVERKILL can't decide what this game is and in the two years that this game has been out, they've never decided. This game is like one big long-running, frustrating experiment. As a player you can expect to get used to a way of playing, only to have it yanked out from under you. Don't get attached to a favorite tactic, because it's more than likely that an update will come along that breaks the way you play. This game has no vision. It seems to be "throw stuff against the wall and see if we can make anything stick". This is my first big problem with the game - it's just tiring to keep up with. It doesn't respect me as a player. Over time, this has tired me of the game.

Secondly, the game doesn't respect you. Expect to sink many many many many hours in this game to progress. If you fail a mission you've been working at for an hour, you get nothing. The game takes pride in being unfairly punishing. They tried to make the 'Dark Souls of heisting games' without actually understanding what makes games like Dark Souls great. Believe me when I say this, they get crushing difficulty WRONG (and I'm the kind of person that will play 'The Impossible Game' for fun). The game is punishing, not difficult. They break most of the good advice in this 'Extra Credits' video -- If you want to see what really makes PAYDAY 2 a bad game (and why the community had so much outrage that rightfully boiled over when the studio introduced microtransactions), watch this:

The best line I can take from that video, which sums up my feelings about this game - game designers shouldn't treat their players as something to be defeated. PAYDAY 2 treats us, the players, as the enemy. Which is such a shame. It really could have been great.

So no, don't buy this game. Don't invest your time in it. Find a game and a studio that respects you as a player and give them your money instead.

Absolutely fantastic fun. I'd never played House Of The Dead so this content was all new to me. It's B-grade horror grindhouse and it never takes itself seriously. Awesome.

If you have an Oculus Rift development kit, this is simply one of the best experiences that you can currently have with it. There's nothing quite like seeing the cabin light up as you take off. The game requires skill and thinking and it's immensely satisfying when you can zip around from landing pad to landing pad.

Definitely recommend this one; Oculus + Gamepad is the way to go!

If you're looking for a simple and fun shooter that you can easily jump into with some mates, this one is it. There are a few frustrating quirks (like not being able to join back into an active round once you die or if you leave) and you need a high tolerance for frustration -- those dinos can be ruthless. If you can stand that and want a game with a bit of a challenge, ORION: Dino Horde is a great choice.

Just don't try and play it on your own - the difficulty curve on the higher levels isn't something you want to tackle on your own.

The devs are very responsive in the forums and it's telling that you'll always find people dropping into your game between rounds if you're playing a 'Public' game.

A classic multiplayer Command & Conquer game. In my mind, the height of the classic series before C&C4. You can still find people playing this game on the servers even today.
