Yeah I would. It's a pretty great example of a game that, while "survival" in game design ideals, makes itself appealing to a much broader market by being formatted in a sandbox and having each world extremely customizable.

For 20 dollars less than most triple A games, it's a pretty good COD reskin. However, the tone in how it is sold and marketed has changed entirely too much. In the first game, which I only started playing in 2020(around that time I don't remember exactly), I literally got it for one dollar during a summer sale. I later paid a lot more money on the game, buying lots and lots and lots of dlc, but compared to the last game I had invested 2000 hours in, For Honor, the dlc system kicked ass. Almost all of them cost less than 5 bucks, and could be bought in bundle or singular to fit what I wanted. The best part of the game though, without a doubt, was mods. Mods added custom heists, custom outfits, anything I wanted. But above all else, I downloaded 300 mods just for custom guns. I had more than 64 different AMR 16 loadouts at any given time.

If you see the theme developing in my complaint, give yourself a gold star.

You could argue Payday 3 was 40 bucks, but I didn't buy it for 40 bucks. I bought 2 copies for 90 bucks each. I was invested in the blooming launch success that Payday 3 was gonna have, and it's my fault I should have spent it on something more likely to return me joy, like maybe underwater basket weaving, but 90 dollars should look better than what I got. Because I bought the 90 dollar edition, I don't have much to say about the dlcs, other than they're probably gonna be delayed. In terms of the good experiences, I can summarize the funniest one with a description of the game mechanic, you can throw bodies outside of a bag.

Payday 2's edge was it was so close to being indie-like. It had so many new ideas that I miss so much once I started playing Payday 3. You can call it being afraid of change, but I miss the little differences between Payday 2 and Payday 3. The arrangement of the menus, the degree of weapon customization, the heist selection screen, how getting into a game works. The gameplay experience is not at the expense of the developers for which they are compensated with lots of little sales. The gameplay experience is at the expense of the player, for which the developers are compensated with a few, very expensive sales. This game is not banking on goodwill which it very much earned, it's banking on the expectations people are used to from triple A games.

You can argue it's not fair to compare a game like this at launch to a predecessor with 10 years of development and support, but that's like saying you can't compare apples and oranges. I can, apples don't have a tough skin, oranges don't have a stem, Payday 3 is not a finished sequel to a game like Payday 2. The strategy of "release it ♥♥♥♥, patch it until it's good" is not a good strategy, I'm sure you have seen it elsewhere.

My problem with this game is that you cannot charge so much more money for a game with so much less content. Pricetags set expectations, but so do predecessors. I'd pay 90 dollars for a more stable, unreal engine Payday 2, but that's not what I got. I got a nonfunctional COD game where the objective is to steal money.

Anyway, this game is probably gonna get patched into playability, but you cannot, and I mean cannot take a game as popular and as still thriving as Payday 2, and make a sequel that is worse on several fronts. Think of it this way, if No Man's Sky had a really good predecessor and launched the way it did, the predecessor would be more popular than the sequel even today.

This review is positive because in about 5 years, if this game isn't lost media, you should probably give it a go when it's on sale for 1 dollar, or maybe when you find it strapped to another game.

Early Access Review
It's a complex and hard game, but you can just make it really easy for your first playthrough, great natural learning curve. It's a lot like Don't Starve, but it's quite a lot more intricate, and you get to fight zombies. As far as survival games go this is tied for me with DST, like 9/10. There's very little wrong with letting players play the game however they want, making it easy or hard, if you can enjoy it there is nothing wrong with the game, it's fun.

It is an extremely enjoyable roguelike, with a killer soundtrack and amazing character design. The hidden aspects are a little annoying to get, especially for the Bow and the Rail, but I don't really blame them for that. And besides, while you're trying to get the hidden aspects, you can have an awesome time just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around and blasting baddies.

I like the dynamic of hunter and prey, and the interesting use of abilities and balance to make the game fun.
