Early Access Review
As a Planetside 2 player, when the game got announced I was kinda sad.
When I saw the first gameplay, I got interrested.
Now that I finally played it, I actually like it.
It is different from the other Planetside games, it is also not the best Battle Royal. What's going for the game though is how it's trying from being different from other BR's and how it's trying to improve the genre, all while implementing features from Planetside 1 and 2.
Instead of "dropping" without anything, you drop with your loadout already equipped, removing the "luck factor" you need in other BR's to survive at the beginning. All you loot are upgrades to your weapon, abilities, shield and Jetpack.
The Jetpack is a wonderfull addition to the game, it gives the game great verticality and makes combat and looting more interesting and fluent.
The classes in the game are pretty unique and fun, you have the essential medic, which heals allies and boosts their shield regeneration, while also reviving them faster. Basically a good support class. The assault class is made to jump right into action or quickly jump away from it. The "Flashbang-trap" is also a nice defensive feature. The engineer is the opposite of that. He has a deployable barrier and an autoturret and is made to be stationary and to forty itself. Saying that "all the classes are the same" is in my opinion not right at all.
Another point where Arena differentiates itself from other BR's is the armor. You have tanks and "harrassers" (basicly buggies with a top gun). They create a big threat to infantry but are not overpowerd. They can be dealt with and it contributes to the fun of the gameplay. You also have a personal transport vehicle, which you can summon at any time, basicly throwing away the "walking simulator" reputation other BR's have.
The biggest problem it has right now is the low player count. Yes you will rarely fill the 300 player cap in a round, this of course leads to more "boring" battles. Now, giving the game a bad review because of it definitly wont help it out : ) .
I believe, through further development and updates, this game could become a really great game and the playerbase problems could go away.
Another bad thing I see with it right now, is the bugs and performance problems. It is not a bug riddled game, but it's also far from bug free. The bigger problem is the bad performance people experience. For me it's working pretty good in-game, tough I get performance problems when I open the Map. Other people experience stutter during "events" like the painfield moving, tough I don't experience that.

Overall it is different than other BR's and fixes a lot of problems I had with them. It is fun to play, tough the bugs and performance problems can be annoying, but are ignorable for the great gameplay it offers.
