Good news is that if you activate a gift or guest pass you are then put onto a full steam accoutn rather than a cheesy free one, tell Greg and hopefully he should pass the message onto me.

Been loooking around and yes you have to buy a game before you can add friends and stuff, I might be able to buy one for you and gift to you, looking into it now!

You're set to offline, that is why you can't add friends, eg. For Ross it says "Last online: 18 hours ago", but for you it says, "Offline"
