I hate card-based roguelikes.

I actually like this, however.

I've had a pretty decent time screwing around in this game.

It has a shockingly wholesome community, too.

My biggest issue I've had was learning how to use the crafting and upgrade systems in the game. There's a lot of information that isn't directly told to you, so you'll need to hit up some Youtube vids to supplement your knowledge.

I've loved the Homeworld series, even the red-headed stepchild of Cataclysm.

I cannot recommend HW3, in its CURRENT state, due to failure and miscommunication of game mechanics.

TLDR:
Game need serious, SERIOUS work in the mechanics department. It feels like you're not playing with an AI that isn't 20+ years experienced, but fell out of a tree and hit every dumb rock waiting for them at the foot.

Failure:
You aren't given nearly the proper amount of data you would need to judge the pros and cons of your 'loadout' when fielding ships. You aren't told how much damage you deal, ever. Not in a stat card, not in the 'Compendium". You're just told "Your ship has gun", and that's it.

Miscommunication:
This is entirely a fault of the AI to correct judge what you want it to do.
Want to go over to that resource cluster and mine? Hit "H" to harvest, and 1 or more of your harvesters runs off to a different node, which is most likely guarded by bad guys.
Want to guard a certain ship? Oh, better hope the unit guarding can keep up with it, stay in range of its own guns, GUARD the friggin thing without chasing down a random single interceptor across the map... and so many more...

Compared to its main rival, Stardew Valley, this game focuses more on the combat side of this genre as opposed to SV.

Gameplay is fairly solid.

My main complaint is with the UI. While it functions well, it has the tendency in combat to stop attacking if your mouse moves over any other UI element, such as the minimap, your toolbar, etc. This, as you can guess would lead your character to stop mid-combat to stare at an enemy or boss while it tries to eat you.

The Cinderella or Ugly Duckling story of the Space Survival genre. (Or "glow up", if you're a zoomer on adderall)

If you've thought about testing out what this genre is like, NMS is a great place to start off.

Personally, I would like it to be more verbose on how its equipment mods affect your ship and personal space suit.

Yeah, that's my only real complaint.

I rather am depressed playing this game.

It feels so... so... thin. It's more on par with Bioshock: Infinite instead of Fallout: NV.

The Character Creation (as far as looks) is pointless. You'll never see your character (outside of Idle Screen animations, when you AREN'T playing it).

The UI/UX is that nasty form of flatness, as if you're looking at your stats, inventory, quests, and everything else as a separate accounting form on some proprietary software you'd get trained on at your 9-5 job, and even they got it on the 'cheap'.

The (physical) world doesn't feel real, at all. You can walk completely through plants that aren't thicker than a tree, but you 'slide' off of marginally-inclined rocks as if your feel are made of butter suddenly.

The story... well... there's worse, yes. This plot feels like an overwritten fan-fiction, however it's lacking a Mary Sue to vent your frustration on.

I played 31 hours.
I can't remember anything of relevance other than what I've written here in this review.

I expected better. Not a whole LOT better. But... better.

Pretty decent 'Twin-Stick" type shooter.

A bit light on the RPG elements and character cosmetical customization, but a rather enjoyable romp.

Best with 1-2 other friends.
