40 hours in. Still very much enjoying it. Decently deep gameplay revolving around suppression to even the odds. Somehow got my hands on a tank that I don't think I was supposed to get, given missing textures on some icons and some functionality not being present despite what the stats say, 11/10, can't wait for full game.

Was able to play the game after engine change. New update drops and my rig is now unable to run it. Shame. Game was fun while I could play it. Not the biggest fan of the direction it's headed tho.

Having Sony walked back their moronic decision, I will reinstate my opinion on the game from the previous review. Legitimately think this is one of the freshest games in years being developed by a good studio that is open to dialogue with their player base. Moment to moment gameplay is great, has the occasional hiccup and patches come out with teething issues but the base experience is very much worth it.

Magic itself feels bloated compared to the well thought out and elegant simplicity of old. Way too many things to keep track of. This version of the game has some performance issues, absolutely awful monetization, the AI is bad if you wanna go against the bot and if you go against other players, the game pretty much throws you into the deep end once you are past the starter area which is incredibly unfun. Also, the card browser absolutely sucks and crashed the game twice while I was using this game. Do not recommend.

After having played this game for over a 100 hours, most of which have been disappointing, I cannot recommend this game. Even after multiple DLCs, this game still feels shallow and the developers are either incapable or unwilling to make it click.

The game runs well, plays well and the base gameplay is good but that's where things kinda end. This very solid foundation is wasted on what are repetitive, randomly generated missions and what campaign missions there are, feel like randomly generated missions with maybe a single go over for refinement. And none of them are memorable or interesting.

The concept of difficulty that the game has is not through interesting challenges or cool scenarios but instead it goes for cranking up the number of enemies to ludicrous amounts that challenge both the setting's premise as well as just all logic. There is one mission towards the end of the campaign in particular where the game just throws a swarm of vehicles at you such that even the toughest mechs will melt under the sheer weight of fire. And this is not a punishment for trying to brute force it nor does the (one of many) meaningless briefings tell you of this, it just happens.

The story is barebones and even that is putting it in generous terms. It's the classic battletech story of avenging someone you are supposed to care about because the game tells you that you care about them. The game then pits you against an evil merc outfit and clearly there is the smallest inkling that they wanted the guys in charge to be some kind of boss squad but there is just so infinitesimally small effort put into this that the idea combined with the sheer lack of it's execution is just insulting. Then once that is taken care of, which the """"story"""" focused on and drove you towards, there is a whole third act which is just kinda there and by this point I could not be bothered to care, this is where the vehicle swarm mission came in and it just broke me.

Of the DLC's they add small but noticeable improvements but nowhere near enough to say the game gets good. There is a small spot of light during the Kestrel Lancers DLC but even that is painfully short lived and it just jumps right back down to mediocrity. And it is definitely not worth the time nor money investment.

It is truly sad that there are better older mechwarrior games which you cannot buy out there and this pale imitation of a game is what you can get. Play the HBS game if you want this kind of story but much better told and try finding MW4 if you can for this kind of gameplay. It isn't quite on the level of this but man are you getting a much better overall package.
