This game is genuinely enjoyable.
Fast paced 3v3 team shooter, you'll enjoy it.

The graphics are amazing and the building mechanics are unparalleled, but this game has a lot holding it back.

This game lacks much content/action to partake in on an island roughly 4x the size of the original Forest map.
You'll notice the scenery around you is beautiful but it doesn't make up for how empty and pointless the survival aspect of this game is when put it in comparison to the story.
This game can easily be completed in 12 hours at a decent pace, only following the objectives marked on your GPS and not spending time building a shelter for you or Kelvin.
Once you reach the ending, you soon come to realize how little there is to do if you choose to stay on the island or even play the game in general.
At this point, it's essentially Minecraft survival mode; building whatever to your heart's content. This bothers me personally because the game feels so empty and boring as you can already expect what the experience is like; occasional grouped attacks of cannibals on your shelter with the occasional mutants showing up. (You'll also come to notice that more and more mutants will spawn, randomly but also by cannibal camps)
That's about it however. No additional story line, just you surviving until you inevitably quit due to boredom. There's no "threat" that makes it thrilling and worthwhile to continue playing to experience yourself, it's just the same measly threat of cannibals showing up at your front door.

What I do enjoy about this game however is the AI companions you make along the way.
Kelvin is a useful companion not worth killing or leaving behind, and you can command him to follow you around, collect logs/sticks/fish and more, and build whatever blueprints you put up. He's very useful in your play through if you wish to build expansive/expensive structure(s), but if your only reason in buying this game is to eventually reach the ending, then Kelvin serves no purpose in your endeavors. For most people, this isn't the case, and I'd assume most people buy this game to test out the building mechanics and build whatever they want, and that's alright.
As you start the game and throughout your play through, you'll notice a three legged/arm human like creature who will approach you on several different occasions checking you out, and over time will trust you more and more before they become an official companion with you. Virginia doesn't serve as many purposes as Kelvin, and the only items you can give her is a GPS pin, a shotgun and a pistol. You don't have to worry about supplying her ammo, as she has infinite ammo herself, but her only purpose is fighting off cannibals/mutants, and you'll fine it especially useful giving her guns. You can always go back anyways to the same locations to retrieve your guns if you end up giving them to her.
What I wish the devs did is make the AI more human like, for the purpose of immersion really. They lack voice lines, and while they do have many different expressions and do react to their environment, these animations need to be fleshed out and improved upon more to really convey the feeling that you're really interacting with human like characters.

I love this game and everything it has to offer, but it might be best to wait a couple months for the developers to really improve upon and fix up this current product before playing the game.

First and foremost, I'd like to say I have been unrightfully restricted (banned) from playing public matches in this game because apparently people find it funny to mass report me as a funny joke and the developers have no legitimate system to verify the reports as false.

So what's my opinion on the game?
Dread Hunger's English community is being completely ignored by the developers, they're constantly stalling saying things are in development, but can't seem to deliver anything interesting, and instead only cater and interact with their Chinese community, which are extremely toxic. The environment for new players isn't great, the tutorial teaches you next to nothing about the game, and if you really want to learn and have fun, you're going to have to join a community willing to help you with that.

This game is in a state of decline, simply because the developers don't care about the people playing their game, so don't buy it, don't spend money on it, give your money to developers that actually care about this game.

A year and a half later, this game has been officially unlisted on the steam store, and will soon have server support discontinued beginning the new year. What a shame that the developers decided to release DLC's instead of actual content, and instead kept the game at a $30 price tag despite the game only warranting a price at best $20. This game is a great example of what incompetence is capable of doing.
