So satisfying. A single player RTS game where you usually start out completely outnumbered and have to use time and resource management skills to scrape by and build up until you can turn the tables and clear the horde. It really rewards micromanagement and efficiency but also requires you to scale up your army to the max quickly to handle the sheer number of zombies that are thrown at you. The campaign is very challenging but never feels impossible, and the rewards you choose as you progress motivate you to keep unlocking the next one. I really love the ability to hit spacebar and pause at any time, it lets you take as much time as you want to plan and deal with multiple things going on at once even if you don't have godlike management skills. The scouting missions aren't as fun as the colony ones for me, and insanely frustrating if you play for an hour and then let your dude die, but the tension and strategy you need for those are their own kind of satisfying and do a good job of adding some variety. The graphics are basic, the story is pretty throw-away, and there's no multplayer, but honestly I don't miss any of those things, the core gameplay loop is what you're here for.

This game managed to re-awaken my hunger for half-life as well as my interest in VR as a medium for video games. One of the best video game experiences I've had in years.
