In short, it's an absolutely incredible game and would recommend it to any fan of the SoulsBorne series. In length: Sekiro brings a new twist to the already established game mechanics of the SoulsBorne series. However, unlike Dark Souls, who's combat heavily relies on patience, memorizing enemy patterns and taking advantage of openings, Sekiro demands a more in your face approach; more akin to the fast-paced combat of Bloodborne. This combat mixed with newer mechanics such as the prosthetic arm and grappling hook make for an insanely intense game with gripping action. The setting is deeply influenced by Japanese culture, that of which I believe FromSoftware has recreated impeccably (with a twist, of course). From the architecture and character design, to the twang of biwa strings in the OST, it's hard not to become fully immersed in the world From has created. This said, you wont just be seeing Japanese castles and pagodas throughout the entire game. Without spoiling the mid-end game, there's no short of the mythicality that we've come to expect from the developers after such theme-twisting games as Bloodborne. My personal favorite part of the game would have to be it's telling of various religious symbolism, folklore, and traditions; even if most of it is twisted for the game's sake. Despite everything, there are a few things that I dislike about Sekiro. First of all, it's short. Like really short. Even though I finished my first play-through in around 35 hours; it's only because i spent my time exploring every nook and cranny in the game, taking in the atmosphere, and of course, dying a lot. But once you strip down the came to it's core necessities, you can finish the game rather quickly. My subsequent play-throughs in NG+ and above only took around 14 hours rushing through it to get the endings. (I realize that this gripe is due to my rushing, but when you take a look at the game progression from a boss to boss perspective, the game seems rather short.) Speaking of NG+, my second gripe. Other than the multiple endings the game offers, there is little incentive for playing through the game again. Unlike the previous souls games, there's a lack in build variety. For instance you can play Dark Souls 1 as a mage (easy mode), use miracles, fight with heavy of small weapons, and if you're particularly masochistic, you could play through the entire game with a bow. My point is, going through the game over and over again with nothing more than your prosthetic tools and trusty ol' Kusabimaru gets stale in a way. This being said, I would highly advise people to play through again, as there's a high chance you've missed something in your first go. Fromsoft has a habit of hiding things very well, which is one of the reasons I can still play through my favorite Souls games and still find something new. And uhhh, I think that's it. Game's great, play it and have fun. The game's frustrating but insanely captivating and rewarding. And remember: Hesitation is defeat.
