It's ok. It's a lot of the same as Subnautica 1 and below zero.

The graphics are nice but the only "new" thing is co-op, and it doesn't really add much to the experience.

Also the thinly veiled political messaging is just cringe. Naive anti gun sentiments, etc, etc.

Wait until early access is over, at least.

Forza Horizon 5 — now with rice

This is not really a new game. This is Forza Horizon 5 with a Japanese skin. And I don't mean that as lazy shorthand — I mean the cars are the same, the horns are the same, the menus are the same, the models are the same. They added ray tracing and moved the map. That's broadly it. If you bounced off FH5, nothing here will change your mind. If you loved it, congratulations — you get to fall in love with the same game again in a new postcode.

Now, about Japan. The setting had so much potential, and the game squanders a surprising amount of it. The roads are wide. Implausibly, almost comically wide. You could fit three Ford Raptors side-by-side on the mountain passes — the exact roads that should feel narrow, technical, and alive with that white-knuckle touge energy. Instead it feels like someone looked at Japanese geography and said "but what if it was more like Arizona." You'll spend most of your time forgetting you're in Japan entirely.

The writing doesn't help. It's the kind of aggressively cheerful, corporate-millennial dialogue that reads like a brand trying to go viral — "Hello fellow petrolheads!" energy from start to finish. Soulless in a very particular, expensive way. The one genuine bright spot is a radio station voiced entirely in Japanese, which accidentally does more for immersion than anything the actual writing team produced.

There's also a tonal problem baked into the concept itself. The Horizon formula — a big legal festival where everything is permitted — works fine in Mexico or Britain. But in Japan, where the entire mystique of the car culture is its illicit, after-midnight, running-from-cops edge, it lands flat. Crowd barriers. Sponsor banners. Sanctioned fun. The aesthetic of illegal street racing with absolutely none of the danger or soul. It's a bit like making a pirate game where everyone has a licence.

Still — it's Forza Horizon 5. The bones are excellent because they were already excellent. It's fun, it's polished, it's an enormous amount of content. Just don't come expecting Japan. Come expecting a decent game that occasionally reminds you of Japan.

6/10 — a decent game wearing an anime cosplay.

No wonder the game story and character design felt off. Consulting a lying, grifting, misandrist, virtue-signalling weirdo like Anita Sarkeesian really shows where their priorities are.

Avoid if you care about video games at all.

Great visual design. Absolutely abysmal combat and gameplay loop.
