Playing this alongside Hollow Knight and this game has been more appealing to me.

I had low expectations going into this game for two reasons. First, It’s only being sold for $5 and second I’m not a huge fan of 2D games. Turns out, this is the best $5 I’ve spent on a game, and after beginning playing it quickly made me forget that it was 2D.

Gameplay
Challenging, but doesn’t emphasize on difficulty which I can appreciate. The combat is easy to pickup and fun to pilot. The game’s combat and platforming feels similar to Hollow Knight in comparison, but I actually prefer this instead. The game adds a ledge grab and offers different utilities you can use in combat, one of them being the actual parry system from Bloodborne which is awesome.

Graphics
As I said, I’m not a huge fan of 2D games but this game does so many things well that I forgot that it was. I also played on Steam Deck which makes all 2D games more enjoyable for me personally. Regardless, the game ran fine other than a few bugs that simply were fixed by going to the main menu and loading back in. (For steam deck users I recommend running on 1280x720 for smoothest experience)

Art Direction
The game’s setting is inspired heavily by Blooborne and dark themed action games. The enemies and bosses I’ve come across so far match the overall theme and are pretty cool to look at.

Replayability/Enterainment
I have a disgusting backlog atm and idk what I’m actually gonna get around to playing 💀, but I WILL say I’m glad I picked up this game up and gave it a chance. I find myself wanting to hop back on to see what’s next. It’s been more engaging to me than other metroidvania/souls-likes probably due to the effort put into it’s story. (I have not yet completed the game but will update my review when I do.)

I’d rate Gravethorn a 9.5/10 and I’m a harsh critic.
I would’ve killed to have had this on one of my handhelds as a kid.
(-0.5 due to bugs that may be exclusive to steam deck)

Would recommend if you’re into the dark aesthetic of Bloodborne and souls-likes embodied in a 2D metroidvania styled game with a great story!

Are you a fan of logical hit/hurt boxes & consistent i-frames while dodge-rolling?

Do you enjoy streamline, coherent, comprehensible maps?

Don't you love being given the option of true player expression by having the freedom to scale whichever stat you please without feeling obligated to any specific one?

Might you consider yourself a fan of fair and well thought out enemy placement, ganks, and overall development decisions?

Do you truly value your time and/or mental health?

LITERALLY GO PLAY ANY OTHER SOULSBORNE TITLE OR VIDEOGAME FOR THAT MATTER (YOU’VE BEEN WARNED).

I’ve heard the base game is objectively better from a development perspective. Might give that one a try one day and compare the two… but I’ll tell you SCHOLAR is definitely a piece of abstract art to say the least.

I redownloaded ts out of boredom and thought "Damn, do I hate myself this much? Has it really come to this?"

What a game!

This is a must play if you enjoy beat em ups. I’d describe it as a more arcade-ey version of Dead rising and I absolutely love Dead rising. I played part 1 and 2 for the first time very young, so I have some romanticized nostalgia with the series.

With that being said, I’ve had more fun playing Lollipop Chainsaw Repop in comparison to ANY time that I’ve ever played Dead Rising.

Gameplay
The gameplay is easy to pick up, but hard to master. The game has a combo list, and you unlock more combos as you progress throughout the game. There’s different utilities the game offers to make chainsaw combos feel fresh and not so repetitive like the Chainsaw Blaster, Chainsaw dash, and the Nick Ticket which offers various ways to use your severed boyfriend’s head as a weapon.

Graphics
As far as the Original mode goes, I love the graphics and art style of the game. They generally go for a comic book look throughout the game, and I actually think it’s pretty cool. This game did release back in 2012, but it still holds up. (Have not played RePop mode yet. I’ll update review if I do)

Art Direction
The theme looks how you’d expect a post-apocalyptic, middle to upper-class high school girl’s game to appear, and I f’in love it. It’s definitely one of my favorites so far. The MC’s different costumes are so dope, and there’s plenty! The costume each character wears in the story is very fitting and visibly attractive.

Replayability/Entertainment
THIS GAME HAS SOME OF THE FUNNIEST/BEST DIALOGUE I’VE EVER HEARD. It’s so good, I didn’t want them stop talking. The dynamic between Nick & Juliet is GOLD. (Nick is literally the funniest character) At times, the dialogue even makes up for the gameplay when it may feel repetitive.

This game has a pretty addictive gameplay loop. I’ve only completed my first play through, but I can definitely see myself going back and trophy hunting for the rest of the achievements.

I’d rate this game a 10/10 and I’m a harsh critic.

Would recommend playing if you just want a chill game to play or something that’ll make you laugh.

100% completion (Only for the nostalgia)

Grew up on this series, and am sadly disappointed.

My level of disappointment for this cash grab would lower if dark catches and darkslides were added. The gameplay overall isn't horrible but feels like it doesn't know if it wants to be realistic or not. There are certain aspects of gameplay that contradict one another... failing at sticking to one design philosophy. Don't think they knew what they wanted to do with this or probably didn't care too much as this is EA were talking about.

Not to mention the multiple in-game currencies, battle pass, microtransactions, no story, no game-mode selection, can't even play S-K-A-T-E (This further supports the cash grab claim)

The most fun to be had in this game lies within your own creativity. EA essentially handed us a sandbox with optional challenges to complete. Something that immensely prolonged the lifespan of Skate 3 (along with community uploads), sadly is what THIS game is purely dependent on.

Unfortunately Skate 1, 2, & 3 are all probably more worth your time and money than this game at the moment... Sh*t, more effort probably went in to the Wii and Mobile port... but hey, this is free to play!
