Ive played the Beta, as well as all seasons so far. I enjoy the game but I do have some criticisms. Ill list some pros and cons to accurately show my thoughts surrounding the game. These are just my opinions so take it with a grain of salt. The TLDR is the game is fun but grindy. Slow/small content updates. Also not so beginner friendly. But otherwise a great game. If you like platform fighters, then hop in and have fun. Its improved significantly with each season. Overall 7-8/10 for me.

PROS:
+ The game is free to play! You can pick up the game and play and if you grind enough you can basically unlock all the characters and cosmetics to your liking. I have yet to spend a single penny on this game and yet I have almost all the characters and at least one cosmetic for basically everyone.

+ The game is a nice change of pace from other platform fighters. I've played a lot of Smash in my younger years and It is a breath of fresh air to try new things like wall clinging (not the same as edge grabbing), more air focused combat, and a moves being more movement oriented. And not having to pay to play for online pay is a huge plus (looking at you Nintendo).

+ There is a lot of love put into the game. Every characters moveset is practically ripped from the source material. All characters have voice lines or sound effects to keep the fighting more alive and not just a smack sound effect frenzy. The love also is shown in stage design, soundtrack, and skins. If you enjoy the properties they have or will add, its definitely a plus to experience. Additionally, most skins are not just recolors like in other games, so expect Batman with various outfits from his different incarnations to choose from etc.

+ Plenty of ways to express yourself. Not only are there skins, but also banners, ring-outs, profile icons, badges, and announcers to make your profile represent you. They add more to the game with each season so its nice to see players always find their unique look in matches.

+ The game gives out a lot of free stuff. Events happen constantly and hand out free cosmetics and premium currency as well. Its nice to have cool stuff you can earn just by playing.

+ Constant updates. The game has only improved since Ive played. Great net code for example. And character balance improves with each patch. Sure you have some imbalances with new characters but most games with characters being added have balance issues for a period of time. There is a new season about every 2 months which adds new characters, skins, stages, and features/game modes.

CONS:
- Slow/Small Content Updates. While their balance and bug fixes are pretty speedy. New fresh stuff can come at a slow pace. Once you've tried the offerings of the season/mid-season the first week, it feels stale. It feels empty during the last week before a patch. Perhaps the game wont feel this way once the character roster and stage list grows significantly, but as it stands, you usually play the same stages and face the same characters often.

- There is a lot of quantity over quality additions. A vast chunk of skins that are just recolors of the base character. They are nice on occasion. Sure, some recolors arent the end of the world, but it does feel like a "heres something to hold you over" thing. Id prefer a handful of solid skins than a large swath of recolors. This applies to stages as well. They recently added a handful of stages using assets from their PvE mode which look so bland and not fun to play on. One is just a brick of sand texture and some sandy platforms with an empty ocean for a background. These additions felt unnecessary and make the game feel eerily empty/lifeless.

- Theming. The game has some serious theming issues. Some stages are boring to play on strictly because the music is so calm. Imagine a cool stage with elevator music... This applies to the main menu too, which sounds like the hub world of a Lego game. I want to be hyped to fight! A game like Smash does this fantastically. There are some songs in the game that are fantastic like the Teen Titans stage. But many have slow beats and soft tones.

- Monetization. I put it so low because I dont think its the hugest issue out there. The Battle pass they offer gives you enough premium currency to purchase the next one every time. Some cosmetics are overpriced for their value and I think they need to be cut down but its not a killer. The game also gives prestige points (currency given for purchasing stuff.) which leads to a special shop with exclusive stuff. This is nice since even stuff you receive for free gives prestige points (So this is technically a PRO). I do recognize the game is free and they have to make their money somehow. Adjust the pricing, offer more stuff. Easy solution.

- Time limited events. I get it, FOMO is popular. But I frankly dont like it. Its probably my biggest drawback with a lot of features because I often times play to complete events and missions in bulk and then get tired and log out for a few days. I dont HAVE to do the events, but if I didnt then my PRO I said earlier for free stuff kind of goes out the window. Its at its worst with the PvE mode Rifts as they want you to complete the levels in a certain span of a week or so but the first Rift is easy but the last rift of a given season is hair pullingly nuts. You almost always need a buddy for the hardest tier if you want to get the rewards and defeat the levels.

- Not New Player Friendly. This kills potential future players. The biggest issue is characters. I get that they are going for a LoL model where you unlock by playing. They offer a weekly fighter rotation. But they need to improve the rate at which you earn the character currency and make one character of every class available to the player at the start. Scale prices down as more characters get released. Its disheartening to see friends of mine not play the game for more than a few hours because they dont have the ability to play characters. The events that occur also let you obtain characters, but usually at the cost of cosmetics. Which most people dont want to do since the cosmetic is usually if not always perceived as more valuable. I dont mind having to unlock characters. Its a nice goal, but when its this difficult to obtain, it needs major adjusting.

- A Lack of other modes. It has 1v1, 2v2, Bots, A new Wacky mode on weekends (Minigames), FFA, and Ranked versions of 1's and 2's. Id really like to see 3 or 4v4's. I have friend groups Id love to bring into the game but they dont want to cut eachother out because you can only have 2 in a lobby. And you can do a private match through online (Only locally). And I also think it would be nice to ready up with two local players to online matches. If I have friends over its not fun to fight bots.

OVERALL
I think the game has a lot to offer. Its fun, its quirky, its got a spark. But it definitely has some big flaws at the time of writing this. Thankfully most of the CONS I lined out are fixable and some are just an issue of it still being a new game but that excuse wont last forever. At the end of the day the game is free and the developers update it regularly with balance patches and new content so even if you don't spend a dime you can still chew out a few hours of fun. I'd say its easy to pick up but one of my cons is that you need to grind out the game for characters. But if there is a week with a rotation of fighters that seem interesting, it would be a good time to pick it up. I know I was mostly harsh but I gave the positive review for a reason. There is something really cool here it just needs some polish. I obviously like the game since I played it this much, I am merely critical so you get a good scope of what the game is like. But I do think the game is about a 7/10, if they fix some of the more immediate problems it could be an 8.
