Classic point and click with an engaging short narrative. Lucas Arts.. man my nostalgia. Surprisingly difficult at times, but worth the playthrough especially if you remember these games fondly.

This game is both strange and boring. I will grant that it has a unique vibe, and cool art, but it's just not really that fun. It's got a pretty steep learning curve and the tutorial is lacking so it makes it relatively inaccessible. That may just be me, but there are a lot of better games out there that I'd rather be confused by. I gave it a for real go and just couldn't get into it and there's nothing special about it to keep me around to continue trying.

Last Train Home is one of the most unique strategy games I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Set amidst the rubble of the Bolshevik Revolution (1917 ish I think), you command an army of troops as they locomotive their way across the great Russian expanse.

Jumping right into it, this game is a wonderfully dense blend of tactical strategy, management (and gathering) of resources, personnel, and history. Not only that, it's also executed in it's own very pretty way, with the deep tones of grime, industry and war painted right into it.

It is taking some extra time to get acclimated to a real-time system as my normal games (civ, xcom2 for example) are mostly turn based, but they did a really good job of integrating a 'strategic' mechanism that allows for pausing and planning while trying to manage your troops. It has honestly been a great game to dip my toes deeper into the waters of real-time strategy.

Anyway, I've barely scratched the surface of the game, so hopefully as I continue playing, I find that I get more accustomed to the play style and that the challenge maintains the right balance. However, things are very positive thus far so I wanted to get them a good review early.

The people who made this game seem to have put a lot of time & care into the development of this game and that makes it exciting to see what lies over the next 3000 miles of tundra.

Early Access Review
This game is definitely a puzzler and I love the concept, where the developer was going. I wanted to love this game. I both tried damn hard to follow along and to remain patient as I recognize things won't come naturally. But like there is just no easing into the core concepts of engineering, assembly, loops, trues and falses, etc. Again, that's not native to many peoples brains, so if you're trying to 'teach' people, it cannot be so incredibly vague. Repetition can get a little boring, but there needs to be enough to enforce my understanding.

There's one puzzle in particular, early on, Double Trouble, and the hint is like 'dont overthink this one', so finally I give up, look at the solution and there were NINE components in this mug. Immediately to the right of that, i'm building a binary calculator. This is like puzzle seven mind you.

And listen - I know that a lot of people don't think they are stupid, but are stupid. I am not one of them. This game is hard, and it made me feel stupid, and it made me wanna turn it off.

This game is fun, but repetitive. The lack of variety allows the user to adopt a strategy that more or less works every time. There is minimal difference in the characters, their special moves, etc. The camera can get really frustrating too. It just needs a lot more in the way of types of content too. Go up, go down.. no reason to go a certain pace, or not. Just sleep it off.

Also - sleep and food do not both mix and become energy. You can use sleep to impact any of the other resource meters, or have it as a meter itself, but that can of Dinty Moore hearty beef stew is not the same as a nap.

Anyway, this game is fun, but doesn't scale and doesn't offer much more than what you get initially. I will recommend it but only on like Steam Super Sale.

Deuces.

Dear Bethesda,

This review is hard to write.

I want to love this game, and I do, because I've literally always dreamed of being Captain Picard, exploring strange new worlds, etc..

I have always wanted what you've built. The problem is not the creation; the problem is the follow through. The quantity of bugs screams that you spent all your money making a big game, but big does not mean good.

There's a bug in my 72 hour old save file now that basically disables me from completing any quests. It is so weird that I can't even describe it. It's like the end of the quests are never fully triggered / resolved, and the game is confused as to which quest is in memory. This is a game breaking, player stopping bug. And it breaks my heart that I must quit out of frustration.

The Mantis questline, the 'extended warranty' vessel, talking to walter stroud in the main quest line - all completely stuck, the last one, being another game breaker.

Shame on you Bethesda for this disappointment.

I went back and forth on whether I liked this game, but in the end I don't recommend it. The specific reason I couldn't decide is because: The. Game. Is. Beautiful - probably the most spectacular video game environment of all time. The attention to Hogwarts was breath-taking as were the landscapes during the broom flights. The first quarter of the game is new, exciting, and engaging. But you immediately get a taste of the rest of the game once you start the alomohora quest line. Between those moons, travelling (i mean imagine what travelling was like before the floo flames), having carte blanche as a kid in a magical school while all the professors do nothing but suck up to you, it gets tedious. There are very few significant side quest lines. Other than the poachers and whats-her-bucket, yawn. I was gonna say the Sebastian side quest, but you have to do it. Plus Sebastian is a little bi***. I like his blind a$$ friend better. See - I can't even remember their names right now. Un-interesting. And where's my reward for never learning a curse or using one? I'm a goodie two shoes - give me my cookie! Every single follow up quest, and there are prolly like 100, involve a snatch and grab and one of four enemy types: goblins, spiders, poachers, and little more. This game is basically a re-skin of a Far Cry game from 2006. It requires no critical thinking, and there's no real replayability (quidditch anyone? More broom races?) Anyway, I don't recommend it, and unless something significant changes, I won't come back. Hollar.

Spiritfarer is a deep narrative that involves, you, Stella, and the ones you love as they transition from one plane to the next. The characters (and their totems) integrate you into beautiful and complex relationships, only for you to learn that there is even more to the story. But, in order to progress, you must travel to far off places, meet far out people, and develop methods to manage your passengers and to level up the boat which transports you to them. This game is chill, yet engaging, and a profoundly identifiable personal human experience that will make you laugh & cry. This game is a treasure. You will not regret finding it.

Chock full of yawns and campiness. The story is only somewhat engaging. It probably doesn't help that I'm not a female, lesbian. Anyway, I had almost given up on it, gave it one more shot, and somehow my save file was corrupted. That's God sealing the fate of my future endeavors at this game. Other than my completionist nature, there was going to be nothing that brought me back. Glad this did it for me. I will add one positive note to it. It was pretty and did afford the user some exploration.

This game was 'neat', but it wasn't really a game. I get that it is more about the narrative, with a touch of exploration, but it literally just holds your hand as you work through the story. And I'm even willing to give it a pass for some of that because it was a creative structure. But even as an 'interactive' story, I had no vested interest in any of the characters, just morbid curiosity of how each of them died. There was little substance to go with the house (who in my personal opinion was the most interesting character - yes, the house) and Edith as you maneuvered along the very rigid path it set out for you. Plus, 20 bucks for 2 hours of entertainment.. anyway, there are just better options out there. Save your money, watch the walkthru, and you will literally get everything out of this that it has to offer, for free.
