In my opinion, Master Duel is quite possibly the best digital Yu-gi-oh experience to date.
If you are planning on playing this game, be aware that the card game itself changed a lot since the playground days.
There's a lot to learn but the Solo mode does a good job at introducing newcomers to the game's mechanics.

My first experience with the Solo mode was very positive, I learned how to play a handful of decks and got and idea of what I liked playing. Afterwards I did research into what kind of archetypes would interest me and had quite a bit of fun playing them against bots. The game itself is very generous and F2P friendly at the beginning and allows you to start with enough gems to build a decent deck or even go for 3 copies of a structure deck of your choice (Zombies my beloved!).
Festivals and Duelist Cups which happen at least once per month allow F2P players to get around 3000+ gems max, which is a decent amount.
In case you don't end up pulling the cards you want, the crafting system allows you to dismantle certain rarities of cards to craft ANY card of the same rarity, which is extremely F2P friendly compared to Duel Links (Konami's Speed duel simulator).

This game has one of the best soundtracks for a card game sim (Climax theme #7, Keycard Theme #4, and more recently Climax Theme #12 being my favorites) and does a good job at bringing up the tension at the right moments and hyping up the duel.

The gameplay and the fun itself changes over time depending on your deck of choice and the meta at the time, you might struggle or come to a standstill and have trouble winning duels at some point.
I play mostly rogue decks (Suships, Generaiders, Vampires and Naturia), so from experience there were times when playing Ranked inspired me to learn and try new decks in EDOpro before deciding to build them in Master Duel.
Other times I replaced cards in my already existing deck to adapt to popular meta threats which increased my win rate, although the impact itself was limited to viability of said deck.

New cards come and go and the game itself evolves over time: for optimizing fun you either adapt to it or stick to solo mode, there's no in-between.
With all that said, the game itself isn't perfect, it has it's fair share of flaws like any other card game but they are minor in comparison to the amount of fun I've had in it.

9/10 would recommend giving it a shot
