The prices of the DLC's do put me off a bit since after experiencing the game with them, I can't stand playing without them and they are a steep additional price for the game to be properly enjoyable. The AI's don't scale well at the moment and using a few strategies the game becomes significantly too easy to just snowball to the end game while other empires are still sitting on 15k fleets while you're on 100k but looking past the late game possibly having some flaws and the snowballing capacity of certain races compared to others, the game is defiantly worth getting on sale when the DLC's aren't at such a steep price, would reccomend.
