Even though I am not a fan of the launcher apocalypse we are having where every game seems to need its own launcher the Rockstar support team is great at doing their jobs and deserve credit for helping out. I was locket out due to a problem with the email but they were pretty quick at rectifying the problem and helping out so I could get into the game.

As a massive Warhammer and RTS fan I really wanted to enjoy this.. But I just couldn't this is DoW 3 but.. Somehow it feels even worse to play?

I am a very heavy skrimish player and throw tons of hours into that kind of gamemode and weirdly the game feels both too fast and too slow at the same time. The units tend to trudge along at a snails pace along with the spawn timers taking quite a while. This could be fine if not for the fact that the capture points feel to be almost instantaneous. The UI for building units, getting tech and upgrading capture points into buildings of different kinds feel clunky at best and is very confusing for a very limited amount of choices, compared to other RTS games.

My biggest gripe with the game however is how units are engaged in combat for eternity unless you spend resource to have them flee to your base. You cannot try to untangle them, you cannot micro in any real capacity if they graze an enemy unit, it is eternal combat untill death do them part. This really screws with the type of tactics game this feels like it was meant to be. With the micro out of the window this feels more like a clunky spawn units and have them auto battle for eternity. Yes I know you can have them flee but as mentioned above having them snail their way back to battle taking another eternity now damaged and then instantly locked in by grazing an enemy once more we go back to square one.

Too bad.. If they had just copied DoW 1 or 2 and made it AoS it would have been great. Sadly they did not.

Great gunplay for a free game

Apex Legends is at its core a battle royal fps with squad sizes of 2-3 players. This makes it a great game with a friend or two, but not as suited to larger groups of friends playing together. You have several different operators all with their unique abilities, suited to particular playstyles. I have found some operators strong but not directly oppressive as they tend to enhance the experience more than anything. Each season you also have special events, tasks, rewards and so on. The game does have a battlepass each season with the possibility of earning their purchasable credits even to the point of earning back the cost of the battlepass. What drags me to the game over and over though is the amazing gunplay. The guns just feel great, with a fast paced game with arena, battle royal and special modes, you always have a great choice in how you want to fight.

Honestly, I always seem to find my way back to this gem. With lots of new interesting mechanics and updates being added along with new DLC introducing new lords and races. Total War: Warhammer II is just the ultimate strategy game for me, ticking all the right boxes. You have realm management in the overworld, interesting real time strategy in the battles, unique units with special mechanics depending on your race of choice. The races themselves are very unique with lots of assymetry adding to the interesting question of how to deal with each race.

Overall a very enjoyable experience, especially in Mortal Empires where each DLC just makes the world feel more alive and interesting than before.
