I’ve got just over six hours into The Outer Worlds 2, and overall, I’ve enjoyed the story, combat, and atmosphere so far. It feels like a worthy follow-up in tone and style. Sure, there are a few bugs here and there, but that’s pretty common with new releases, so I didn’t mind at first.

What made me give it a thumbs down is the save system. I put in hours leveling up my character, exploring, and completing missions, only to come back and find my latest save showing me as level 1. I always manually save before quitting and double-check that I’m signed in. I use multiple systems (desktop, laptop, and Steam Deck), so I thought maybe it was a sync issue between Microsoft and Steam. After checking all three, they had synced to the lowest version of my save file, wiping out all my progress—no autosaves, no recent manual saves, nothing.

It happened once before and I brushed it off as my mistake, but now it’s clear the issue runs deeper. Losing that much progress makes it hard to want to start again. Right now, this is a “play it in one sitting or lose it” kind of game, which is not how a major release should function.

Fun game, but until the save and sync system gets fixed, I can’t recommend it.

The game is like majority that have been released by the company, it sets itself on being creative but hasn't truly developed itself into something that stands itself out from others. Morrowind broke ground on the openworld RPG with its flexibility and creativitity, and it used that design to develop its future games leading to this.

Don't get me wrong Starfield is great for a Space RPG but it holds all the same design characteristics as Fallout and TES games just using space as a background. The ability to customize your outposts and ships is truly a nice feature, along with the more interactive NPCs, but what doesn't appeal to me is the extreme bugs with audio and visual. Given this doesn't have as many bugs as many other releases by this company but it still has enough to be an issue.

It starts to get repetitive after awhile, doing the same thing over and over again with the same results but hoping for something different, much like insanity.

Audio:
I will load the game just for it to be missing a form of audio thats crucial to playing it (e.g. NPC voices, weapon/enemies attacking)

Graphics:
- The graphics glitch something crazy, like enemies clipping through doors before they ever open
- Blinding blocks appearing when opening certain containers/safes
- NPCs sunk half way through the ground (but they look UP at you as if they were formed that way)

Large advantage is that it can be modded, but can also disable any achievements, so its either mod to your liking or fight through and collect your achievements.

All in all, its actually a good game. All games have bugs, especially when playing prerelease. I expect multiple patches and updates overtime, hopefully fixing the issues and adding much needed features to improve the overall quality of the game.

I find this game is a huge hype with great quick sales but will dwindle fast as it doesn't hold the true replayability value as you could find in some of their older releases. It does have potential but not the GRAB, just yet.

The game has a level of interest and fun that makes it enjoyable but despite all the updates, it has A LOT of bugs and glitches that cause issues trying to play the game.

*There are mission that you may not be able to complete due to a bug causing interactive areas to be glitched out or locked.
*You'll find audio glitches where the same audio for a mission continues to play longer after you've completed it.
*The AI is a joke at times where they some completely dumbfounded that you are there or notice you when you're not even close.

That's just a few big things I've noticed.

There is an ability to Mod the game to improve it but the updates seems to have reduced some of the mods.

Overall really, I put in close to 80hrs since I reviewed this and had it since close to release (I waited for updates) and with the customizations and flexibility of the game, it's still quite enjoyable, but I would wait till there are futher improvements as it's been out awhile and doesn't seem the company is doing much to really fix it up
