After a month of anticipation, I finally get together with my boyfriend on our day off together, plug in two controllers, and get ready to spend an afternoon blasting the locust! But the option is nowhere in the menus to be seen. What gives?

Turns out, 13 days before launch, they pulled the local co-op tag from Steam. They had advertised this game as having local co-op splitscreen as a feature on the Steam page and in the trailer, and my purchasing decision was based on this fact. I was misled, and our afternoon plans were ruined. :(

Looks to me like The Coalition either deliberately lied to sell more copies, or they just plain didn't know what features the PC version of their own game had. For shame!

Make no mistake- as I also felt was the case with both World and Rise before it, Wilds is one of the best action games ever put to print; no doubt in my mind about that. But unlike those two previous entries, it does not run acceptably at all, and I honestly doubt it ever will, if Dragon's Dogma 2 is any indication.

If you have a powerful rig and don't necessarily mind blurry up-scaled visuals paired with subpar frame rates, then I would still urge you try the previous two entries and expansions first if you have not. They have more content for less money and are each truly excellent games. If you have already had your fill of those titles, only then would I be able to recommend this to you in it's present state.

Wilds contends with World to be my favorite game of all time, and this abysmal PC turnout breaks my heart.

Chimeraland's brilliant character creator is wasted on it. The game is a clunky, confusing mess patched together with scotch tape and assorted sticks of varying length. Typically in games with such great character creators/customization such as this I can usually look past issues with the game by virtue of being so invested in my player avatar, but not with this one. The absolute jank, poor PC optimization and UI are hard to ignore and frequently bring down the experience. I can't recommend this game to anyone in its current state.

If you do download and are trying to play on a 4K screen like I was, then get ready to set your mouse DPI ridiculously high if you want to turn the camera around with the game maximized.
