Fantastic game. It's a completely different game from the original RE4, but I 100% think its worth playing if you've both never played it or loved the original. The original Resident Evil 4 is perhaps one of my favorite games of all time, and this remake absolutely lives up to the expectations.
First I'll list off the biggest differences between the two games without spoilers:
- The most noticeable difference is in the tone. The OG RE4 was notoriously very goofy. Lots of One-Liners, Lots of MGS style codex calls, LOTS of silliness. Leon still hits witty one-liners (otherwise he wouldn't be Leon) but the game leans far more into the Survival Horror aspect now, with a darker and more terrifying atmosphere and narrative beats.
- Combat feels very different from not only the OG RE4 but also the other remakes. It's still over-the-shoulder Third Person combat, but whereas the Original had an emphasis on positioning and rewarding tactical and methodical combat, the remake actually plays quite opposite. Firstly, it allows you to move, aim, and shoot at the same time, which might sound obvious, but was not a thing in the original RE4. Second, enemies are extremely clever and will try to stay in your blind spot and flank you, so mobility is really the key to survival. Additionally, the Knife combat has been reworked. Knife durability has been introduced, (which in my opinion ended up being very redundant). Parrying is a thing now- which works really well, and makes fighting certain enemies and bosses extremely satisfying, and gives you another line of defense.
- Ashley has been completely reworked. She has a much more emotional character arc, is genuinely fun to be around (whereas in the Original she was ANNOYING) and doesn't really get in your way as often. The remake has implemented a new mechanic where you can either tell Ashley to give you space, where she'll duck and cover and avoid getting in your way or tell her to stick close and she'll be right behind you as you run from enemies. Extremely easy to understand and very helpful.
- QTEs have pretty much completely been removed- which is either a really good or really bad thing depending on how much you really liked them.
- Certain parts of the story have been fleshed out. Characters that were barely characters in the Original are now some of my favorite characters in this game.

As for the actual review of it by itself...

PROS:
- The gameplay is very smooth and fluid. Leon is very mobile, very responsive, and extremely fun to control. Gunplay is very responsive, and your bullets really feel like they hit HARD, even though every enemy is super tanky, Melee attacks are also super satisfying and its extremely funny suplexing old women.
- The story is remarkable. The characters are very easy to get attached to, and it has a lot of strong twists and turns.
- The first two areas are very very good. The village is a very strong opener and is probably the best section of the game. The second area is extremely unsettling and really reminds you that you're playing a survival horror.
- There's a LOT to do in this game. Not just in your first playthrough, but just the amount of replayability is insane. The game has a lot of unlockable content that just keeps giving, and i found myself opening a second playthrough immediately after finishing the first one just to keep playing.
- Bonus modes like The Mercenaries and Separate Ways are practically completely new games bundled with the base game. Separate Ways in the OG was just an add-on Chapter or two about Ada Wong that was kind of just pretty cool. In this game, it's literally an entire new Resident Evil game with Ada Wong as the protagonist, The Mercenaries is an extremely fun game mode that you can play without having to beat the base game. If you enjoy Arcade shooters, that's pretty much what it is.

CONS:
- I love how explorable the map is, don't get me wrong. I HATE that you can soft lock completion of maps by hitting certain narrative beats. The two biggest examples are how you lock yourself out of the lake area by going into the church, and how the section in the castle where you play as the Deuteragonist has Treasure Chests that can only be obtained in this section.
- Adding to that, the game's Map Completion requires you to find Small Keys, which are consumed upon use, and have no indicators on the map of where they are, but there are exactly enough keys for how many chests there are, so you just gotta hope you don't miss any.
- A big problem with the original game was the overabundance of ammo you got. Like your briefcase was completely full with ammo 90% of the time. The remake seems to have the exact opposite problem. I found myself running low on ammo after nearly every major encounter in the last third of the game. This, along with knife durability, meant you really had to just run around looking for ammo drops in the middle of fights while kiting enemies. This probably isn't that big a deal on lower difficulties, my first playthrough was on Hardcore.

Overall i'll give it a solid 9.75/10. Most of the problems I have are mostly nitpicks. I genuinely have so much fun playing this game that I can overlook the problems altogether. I strongly recommend this game even if you haven't played the other Resident Evil games.

I've never had more mixed feelings about a game in my life. The first few hours of this game were extemely promising. I was expecting a really weapons focused co op survival horror-esque open world RPG- like a mix of Hunt Showdown and Far Cry.
The first few hours were pretty much exactly that. And then once you hit the very end of the Intro Missions it starts getting a little repetitive. And then the whole game kinda changes to be a pretty disappointingly empty mission based shooter,
I don't have the same criticisms everyone else has about the weapons. The weapons they give you in the very intro of the game are pretty solid if you enjoy a strong stealth and positioning based playstyle. Aiming at the weakpoints while I R6S crawl my way around corners was really fun. I just wish the rest of the game was as solid.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this game TBH.
It has good music, and the gameplay is simplistic, so it seems like an easier access Rhythm game than something like OSU!
But the target audience is very obvious. The dialogue and tooltips really target lonely teenagers looking for anime waifus.

Not my kind of game, don't know what I was expecting, considering what all the trailers looked like lmao
