Mortal 2 isn't perfect, and it's complicated and punishing so very much not for everyone. If you're like me, and you want games to be as challenging and persistent feeling as possible, then it doesn't really get better than this. If Rust is starting to feel repetitive and "arena"-ish, check out MOII.
I think in the 2030's there will be many games like this, with single-shard game worlds and no wipes. Honestly, the word "game" fails to describe a virtual space this rich.
A note about the sub cost: Of course, it's a deal-breaker for some people. It hurts a little to buy something, and then pay again just to unlock the product you bought. But for people who know the game it's worth it cause no other game comes close to offering the same immersion. We would all pay double. One day there will be a thriving genre of games like Mortal to choose from, but for now, nothing else comes close.

Early Access Review
The Isle is a really dope game. It is also really, really not for everyone. I have found that my friends enjoy the game more when I prepare them for extreme levels of brutality in the gameplay. Kind of a "you don't want to play this game" approach. Some unusual aspects of the game:

When you die in PVP or PVE is sends you all the way back to the very beginning.
Many of the players who can kill you can 1-shot you.
Despite it being so violent, it is also very slow.. it can be normal to hunt on a full server for 30-40 minutes at times without contact.
There is no build-customization. You will simply be piloting a dinosaur player model of a specific age and with specific attributes that you can not invest in over time.
PVP, and "endgame"in general is a very simple system compared to other PVP games with weapons, spells, vehicles, etc. That doesn't mean that it is simple to stay alive in the game, but the mechanisms that keep you alive are structurally not as complex as other games. You run, you bite, you may have an alternative attack depending on what dino you are.
Complexity in the Isle occurs at the strategic level of your own decision making over hours and hours of existence in a server's ecosystem.
Once you are a full adult, there is little else to "grind" towards. You will become hungry and need to eat again, basically. Think of the Isle as early game stretched out into a full game loop. It's kind of like Rust before you have a base up. Just exhausting, endless, skin-of-your-teeth survival. That's why I love it so much. I hope that processing some of these weirder and rougher aspects of the game help some other people experience the way I do.
I am baffled that this is not a whole, thriving, genre. It probably will be, but in a few more years.

Hey I can definitely reccomend AGF. I am completely new to any level of game development or working with 3D objects; my first experiment with making environments was in a Rust server that I rented and modded. Eventually, that format became too restrictive and I went looking for something way more powerful. I am still getting my mind around everything AGF can do, but even at noob levels I've had an awesome time building detailed settings and maps.
Here's a link to a simple Martian biodome scene I created in a few hours with very little experience and using all free assets from the unity asset store.
