CLAIR OBSCURE: EXPEDITION 33

General opinion

A pearl not so unknown. An engaging gameplay (if you like turn base games), a strong storyline wrapped in a wonderful graphic and an even more stunning ost. Without a doubt one of mine top 10 games.

GAME-PLAY
The gameplay feels really good and well thought with a lot of skills for each character. The exploration part is very limited to the style of the game, where areas have well define map: less open world and more old school game I'd say. The whole combact system is very engaging and it can be well managed by setting the preferred difficulty (which can reduce or expand parry and dodge windows). The characters are limited, but each of them have its own mechanics so I can understand the struggle to make multiple characters without being redundant.

STORY
We spawn in a sort of distopic Paris where all people that are over the age painted by a misterious figure disappear. Each year this number goes down by one, and each year a squad get sent out to try and stop this entity. We are the 33rd Expedition to this figure, the paintress, and as soon as we set sail and arrive at the nearest shore we encounter a man who basically destroy all of the squad but 5 people. As we progress we unlock new characters and discover the vastitude of these region, which is populated by nevrons, strange creatures that will try to kill us. Fast foward we fet to the paintress by series of trials and basically realise that all this world is just a paint realized by a family of painters (a kind of humans with the ability to create "magical" paintings) which are grifing the death of their son, everyone in their own way: The mother is hidden in the painting of her lost son (where the whole story take place), without accepting the reality of her loss, the father is trying to destroy the painting to protect the rest of the family, the youngest sister (Maelle) is inside the painting too, consumed by guilt for her lost brother and, lastly, the oldest sister is avoiding the topic completely by interacting as little as possible with the matter.
The whole story continues after the defeat of the paintress and the realization of the nature of the world they're in, with the father trying to destroy the painting once and for all.

AUDIO
ONE OF THE BEST OST , the audio department is basically flawless, from very sharp and crisp sounds to an impeccable OST, which space different genres from lyrical to kinda new age jazz to rock hinted songs (I'm no expert of the topic).

GRAPHICS
The graphic is another very strong point of the game. It is very sharp and realistic. It makes the experience even more enjoyable.

DIRECTION
The camera in very well coded not giving any discomfort, although i don't like as much the open world part which is seen from very distant.

SUGGESTION
This is a game very solid in all departments, I strongly suggest to give it a try.

THE SPELL BRIGADE

General opinion

6.5/10
🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦⏹🔲🔲🔲

The game is fun and very pleasing, is a nice time killer if you want a chill moment or a fun moment with your friends. It still lacks a lot of content, such as variety of enemies, modes and enchantments; of course is an early access so it was predictable... I hope the devs will continue to update.

GAME-PLAY
As said earlier the game-play is the strong point of the game . It's very fun and enjoyable in single player and multiplayer (preferably with friends). It becomes a bit monotone after some times given the lack of content at the moment, but the rng makes every run slightly different, since the enemies are always the same, they appears always at the same time and at the same rate. Quick note if you get to lvl 100 or more the game starts to bug (probably because isn't intended to go as long as that) and the rune burst doesn't move anymore, it just stands where it spawns.

AUDIO
The audio is very raw . The music is simple but sweet, although it is always the same. Sound effects are too much similar (the enemies that explode has the same audio as the enchantment falling star with the explosion perk) this can create a lot of confusion since you may confuse audio cues. Although the major problem with audio is that when there are too many enemies it doesn't play correctly.

GRAPHICS
The graphic is cartoonish but pleasant, I think it suits well the game.

DIRECTION
The camera is well done and follows properly the player, but the HUD covers sometimes the enemies or isn't always clear to announce the new objectives .

SUGGESTION
The game has to fix some issues previously touched, but in general has potential in my opinion.

  • Add more enemies
  • Add world-based enemies
  • Add different bosses (possibly more interesting)
  • Possibly improve the difficulty (not only spawning the same mobs at the same rate just with more health and damage)
  • Add endless-mode (possibly where you can continue a paused one so that you can continue in between sessions)
  • Adding maybe a mode where you have to complete more stages, with increasing difficulty, in a row to get better rewards
  • Adding permanent upgrades (for example dodge probability)
  • Adding maybe materials you can drop to upgrade outfits
  • Having outfits giving different buffs
  • Having maybe a active key to use a special move of the enchantments that you can charge during a game.

A really good game in the "Harry potter's" world. it is set in the past compared to the main story of the films, this give some liberty to make the story more interesting. the ost are really good, and the graphic is jaw dropping. The gameplay fels smooth and challenging enough. The only small issues are (in my opinion) the repetitiveness of the exploring quests, and that the game can cause a bit of motion sickness.

One of the most well structured strategic games. Every faction has unique mechanics, the lore is very solid and the gameplay is really enjoyable given its dual nature (campaign and battles).
The only downside is the amounts of money that you have to spend in DLCs to play every faction, lord and troup

OUTER WILDS

General opinion

9.5/10
🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦⏹

JUST WOW. Absolutely a strong up-vote for this masterpiece. I enjoyed every minutes of game-play , the ideas are BRILLIANT, how the game is structured, how the game-play works, how smooth and interesting the lore is.
I personally suffer a lot motion sickness, but this game surprisingly, given the nature of the game-play, solved pretty well this problem.
It's important also to mention how incredible is the scientific part they managed to fictionalise narrowly some theories that have a sort of base in science.
ONE OF THE BEST GAME I PLAYED .

GAME-PLAY
The game-play is simple but very enjoyable and on point . At the beginning you have to get used to it since this game isn't exactly a game, but a physics simulation, so it has, sometimes, movement' features that generally don't appears in games. The only thing that i wish there was is to have more dialog options with the main NPCs.

STORY
The story is beautifully though and written, how it develops and how it starts it's so good there isn't one thing in this game that doesn't have a purpose . The way it's explained everything is consistent and coherent. How you re-spawn every-time is well thought and so perfectly fitted in that is better that any other time travel shenanigans i have ever seen (in games and in films)

AUDIO
The audio is so simple yet so effective. The music is good at conveying the emotions that this game brings , it is so good that even the silence is different in this game , and it is, in all aspects, a major part of the soundtrack. The audio effects are good but sometimes, in my opinion, too simple, but they still hit the target.

GRAPHICS
The graphic is simple and clear , even it is my least favourite aspect of the game i think it suits well the game.

DIRECTION
The camera is beautifully programmed since it doesn't give you motion sickness (and I usually suffer it), and frankly this game could easily give you motion sickness.

SUGGESTION
My only suggestion is to buy and enjoy this game. You could also play it with friends by streaming it so that you can brainstorm together. The only thing is THIS IS A BLIND RUN GAME don't let anyone spoiler you.
