Proprietors and supporters of the “brown Jesus” theory seem to forget that the US was literally originally built by European immigrants. The first Christian churches were built and started by Europeans in the new world. So, of course, it would only make sense that they would use the depiction of a “white” Jesus since that is what they knew from the old country. Leonardo Da Vinci, the guy who painted the famous first depiction of Jesus, was Caucasian. So, it would only make sense that he would paint Jesus as a Caucasian man with European features. Only historically recently have people critiqued this depiction as most likely inaccurate and a product of Euro-centrism that was so prevalent in the art at the time.

All depictions and drawings of Jesus are just artists assuming what he could’ve looked like.
