In it's current state, the game is great. Bosses don't have fighting game combos while you wait for your turn to MAYBE hit them, and the persistent co-op is wonderful, as is the ability to disable invasions. Other devs are fixing problems with the genre while FromSoft just keeps making the same mistakes. If you liked Dark Souls but were frustrated with Elden Ring, this is worth getting.

Early Access Review
I'm genuinely shocked at how big and full of stuff the world of this game is. Casual adventuring and then suddenly BAM, HUGE DUNGEON. Good times.

I'm almost offended at how bad this game was. Other reviews have gone into enough detail about just bad the game is so I won't go into detail, but there are better free to play MMOs *from twenty years ago*. City of Heroes is still available and is a far more enjoyable game, for example. Literally all this has going for it is the art and cute characters, but even the customisation is awful. If that IS what you're a fter, then, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I'd suggest PSO2: NGS (and that game isn't good either.)

This game is genuinely amazing. Better than Doom: The Dark Ages! ... But like, actually.

The gunplay is satisfying, all of the guns feel really good to use, it's fast, it's intense, and the "tacticool" elements of manually ejecting, reloading and cocking your guns is surprisingly engaging and adds an effective layer of intensity and fear when your gun jams in the middle of a big fire fight.

I can understand the gore being offputting for people, but it can be turned off if it's too much for you to handle (which I would get because it's uh, something else), but you'd be doing yourself a disservice as this game is really, really good.

If the anime aesthetic is offputting however; grow up. Deal with it.

Everything this game does feels cruel and at the expense of the player.

This is so much better than I expected. It's like if Pokemon was fun.

I want to like this game. There IS good there, but it's being squandered. PSO2 and NGS are the epitome of wasted talent. The combat is fluid and responsive, movement feels good, the gunplay feels nice... But for every positive there's multiple negatives -- that fluid and responsive combat is held back by lack of variety and boring builds; the nice feeling movement is held back by lack of a real r eason to engage with it when you can just float in the air and avoid damage with excessive iframes; and the gunplay feels nice... For the existing 2 guns. (TMGs are a melee weapon in disguise, fight me). Also I am not including bow because Sega forgot about it to.

But hey! There are always more scratches and boring "limited time quests" that offer no unique rewards to look forward to in this lootless loot-grinding game!

EDF was and always has been better than Helldivers 2. The EGS sucks ass and I want it to be removed, yes, but it's still a great game.

There is a frankly unreal number of things this game does better than Elden Ring, and that is wild to me. Multiple defensive options which are all valid, a visible stagger meter that rewards aggressive and risky play, and a surprisingly charming little story and voice acting. I've died a few times to bosses and it's never felt frustrating or unfair -- it's a huge breath of fresh air after the Elden Ring DLC.
