I wanted to give this game another chance after 343 scammed me out of $60 for an unfinished campaign tacked onto a FTP game... I reinstall and boot it up, and nothing is loading. All my other games work fine, and there's no shortage of other things to play.

Early Access Review
This game had a promising start, but EverGrift ruined the game over the months with poor balancing, focusing on flavor of the month factions. Progressing feels like a grind, and there isn’t enough new or interesting to make me want to play.

Darktide is a promising game that is being held back by duplicitous developers. The core gameplay is great, but after a while seeking to upgrade gear becomes a slog. Fatshark is slowly working on additional ways for players to unlock what they want, but its still a problem.

Also the game released unfinished with many features that were in Vermintide II missing, and a host of bugs. I can’t recommend the game in its current state.

EDIT: Over a year later and the game is finally in a playable state. Not perfect, but a good amount of fun. I still have my complaints regarding acquiring gear.

When the matchups are reasonable, the game is a lot of fun. The game looks good and has a lot a flavor for 40K/30K fans. However in building that flavor the amount of special rules has bloated. The rules could stand to interact more with each other. It often feels like you are playing solitaire alongside your opponent, racing to see who can set up their BS first. People default to the the most OP/ cheesy combos, though occasionally you’ll find someone who has put together an original list. Many cards that are staples in decks rely on drawing random cards or dealing random damage, which can be frustrating at times.

The real disappointment of this game is the limited card availability in the store front. You could be waiting for months to buy the card you need to finish up your deck. EG has attempted to supplement this by allowing you to focus in what faction your challenge crates draw, but epic and rare cards are hard to come by.

In addition to normal play there is an draft event mode that allows you to construct a deck by picking 1 of 3 “card packs” ten times. You can spend in game currency to reroll your three options. This mode heavily favors veterans of the game who can endlessly reroll to stack the best cards in their event deck.

With all this in mind, it’s hard to recommend this to a new player. It’s a long uphill road to be competitive, and even then you will still find yourself losing again and again for reasons that are our of your control. Warhammer fans might get enough enjoyment out of the setting to get past this, but beyond the lore I think the game is too much a mess right now for continued enjoyment.
