Not my favorite dungeon crawler, but a strong showing from a solo dev. It doesn't have quite as many ideas as Grimrock, but it does a good job of creating a hostile and unsettling atmosphere. And the combat is a step up over games like Grimrock, where you have to actually aim and block your attacks directionally. Hitting enemies in the right spot will trigger critical hits, which stun them briefly and do increased damage. So there's more depth than just dancing in a circle to dodge and hit. I'm excited to see what this developer creates next.

A brisk 90 minutes to get all achievements and solve 30 puzzles. The latter ones can be pretty satisfying. Although there can be some unpredictability to enemy movements, which can be frustrating at times.

It also has a level editor and community levels, which I did not mess with very extensively.

Even better if you can nab it on sale.

First off, this game has a super generous 2 hour demo, and progress (and achievements!) carry over to the main game. It's a really unique tactical combat system with a combination of real-time and turn-based mechanics. The writing is snappy but also really strong at quickly allowing you to understand characters and their personalities and motivations. Overall, after 2 chapters, I highly recommend this.

Months removed, this is still my goty. A terrific, impactful game.

Darkest Dungeon 1 is one of my favorite games of all time. I came into DD2 a bit skeptical of the major changes. While I still have problems with the sequel in some of how it's structured, I have come to love it for what it is.
Gone is the grind of DD1 in having to level up replacement characters due to that game's permadeath (think modern XCOM). Instead, what can be a bit of a grind is the roguelike structure of the sequel. Runs are long, taking up to 3 hours with where I am so far in the progression. Each run nets you candles of hope, which is a meta progression currency to unlock new types of items to find during runs, as well as unlocking temporary and permanent buffs to individual characters' stats.
If you don't like failing a roguelike game run and losing your progress, you'll probably like it even less here due to the time commitment. But this game otherwise made a ton of interesting and smart boardgame-like changes to the combat system, and it married those to a Slay the Spire-like branching path progression to the runs. If you like DD1 and don't hate roguelikes, I'd say you should give it a shot. Otherwise, fans of party-based tactical games can find a lot to love about this.

It's at least as good as everyone says.

This game is fun, and deserves more attention!

The concept is like Overcooked, in the sense that you're dividing tasks with a co-op partner in a hectic environment. But the moment to moment gameplay is more like Among Us (varied minigames for each type of task, usually consisting of button presses or combos).

This is a good 2D Zelda-style game with a cute storytelling premise. It isn't groundbreaking, but it's a great take on the genre. The classic Zelda tools feel better than ever.
