I personally didn't enjoy wintermute, but let me clarify that this is IN NO WAY REFLECTIVE OF THE MAIN GAME (or "survival mode").
The key appeal of the long dark is that your only objective is to survive, alone. So (at least in my opinion) adding characters and quests kind of ruins that. I really do love the characters, Molly and Jeremiah especially, I just wish they were in another game.
The chapters range in quality greatly, 1 is great, 2 is abysmal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, 3 is cool and I haven't played 4.

Mouthwashing is less of a video game and more so a carnal, hallucinatory nightmare that leaves you questioning if you're a good person.
