What a fun puzzle game. It was much longer than I expected it to be, much like the many ladders we climb throughout the story. I was able to beat it and get all of the achievements within 8 hours, but I am a pretty slow player. I had to rub all my brain cells together to solve some of these puzzles. Most of them are very straightforward, but some I got stuck, and was confused because I was off by like one second, or a single millimeter, and came to the wrong conclusion that I was not solving the puzzle correctly, but perseverance won in the end. This review is a testament to that. When in doubt, just press random buttons, and try and try again, and you can solve it all. The achievements are also very easy to get, which I appreciate, so I can add them to my trophy wall to feel special.

Now onto the story (spoilers ahead). Creaks is about a young man just trying to read his book, but everything around him is going wrong. His room, hovely, wallpaper peeling like a rotten banana, lights flickering annoyingly, and of course, creaky wood everywhere. As his wallpaper keeps coming undone, he discovers a massive cavern below his little shanty. He climbs down a ladder that has to be at least a mile long, creaking the entire time, of course.

Next, he is breaking and entering into a mansion of epic proportions. But who is the owner of this creaky, massive manor? The bird people course. First, our protagonist hides like a little voyeur and watches these bird inhabitants struggle in their lives; he is terrified, perhaps he has never seen a birdman before. The paintings on the walls tell a different story. Of people and birds as friends standing side by side, yet our protagonist is fearful of them. Is it because of his criminal offense of home invasion, or is it because bird people are forced to live underground, and the people above have forgotten them? The lore goes on, theories are made here.

Suddenly, as he watches through creaky holes, the birdpeople spot him, but they are not afraid; in fact, they instantly embrace him as one of their own. The catch? He must go through their giant house, climbing ladders, creaking, and solving puzzles. What happens in the end, I leave it to you to play. I highly recommend giving it a chance, of course, if you love the sound of creaking wood and puzzles.
