I dont enjoy writing bad reviews. Game development is extremely arduous and I genuinely respect the efforts put in by all developers. I can tell that even with this review I'm giving it, the GreedFall devs made this with their entire heart. With that being said, Greedfall tries to do way too much, and falls short in almost every regard.

It tries to emulate the feeling of being a diplomat, of an RPG, a deep crafting system, rewarding exploration, satisfying looting, and ultimately spread itself too thin and made all of these extremely plain/boring if not downright irritating at times.

The game quickly turns into a walking/fast travel simulator. You're constantly having to go all the way across the map to talk to one person, only to turn around and have to go back to the original person again. The game sometimes remedies this by letting you instantly travel back to the location/person you need to, but this just highlights a more nested issue: the gameplay was just not there. Every single quest was either: go talk to several people and maybe choose one or two dialogue options, or go kill some things then talk to someone. And when I had to kill things, I dread it more than the run-back-and-forth dialogue. I see the vision of what they were trying to do with the combat, but in the end it was just downright clunky. The melee was boring and a click fest, with the enemies attacks being not telegraphed at all. I began to just accept that I'm going to get hit by every attack, and specced into heavy armor and two handed to mitigate them being able to attack me. Magic/traps were also just awkward.

The environment was by far the best part of the game. There are some really beautiful pieces of scenery in this game. But again, this is extremely quickly overshadowed by the walking simulator, placement of monsters every 10 feet that are downright annoying to fight, and the invisible walls. There were only 4-5 non-humanoid enemy types in the game, a handful of bosses, and thats it. Not to mention that endgame monsters were just the normal non-humanoid enemies but with more HP (=more annoying).

Facial animations/textures were jarring and ghastly, and the same handful of building were LITERALLY copy and pasted all around the map, verbatim. Cities were annoying to traverse over and over, and I honestly just didn't connect with any of the characters save for your companions/followers which had okay-ish stories.

The writing, dialogue, and voice acting was just not there either. Usually if a game doesnt excel in gameplay, it can excel in the story, in the lines written by the writer, but unfortunately GreedFall falls shorts of this too. The story was very predictable, and presented the player with obvious "correct" choices despite advertising that you're trying to navigate the journey of a diplomat.

All of this is not to even mention the bugs of all sorts. It felt like the game gave an illusion of all of its mechanics.

Admittedly, by the halfway point I was about ready to just call it a day and move onto the next game in my log. But, sunk cost fallacy kept me going.

The developers here just stretched themselves too thin. They tried to do everything, and in this case, they fell short just about everywhere. I wouldn't say the game is awful, but it genuinely had my wishing for the game to just be over about halfway through, which is, of course, not what you want your game to do.

This is coming from a massive (ex)-Bethesda shill:

As the creator of my favorite game, Elder Scrolls, you guys have flopped so hard that I'm doubting whether or not I'm even gonna buy the next Elder Scrolls. And I think thats all anyone needs to know about the quality of Starfield.

By and large the best RPG of the decade, and it's really not even close. Every game dev should aspire to make what Larian has made with BG3.

Crisp gameplay that is difficult yet rewarding. The fluidity of it all is really great, and the upgrade system is unique and really makes you select what kind of archetype you wanna go for which I like.

While the game was pretty short (man I wish it were longer :( ) the story did a very good job being short and sweet. It set up a main antagonist, had some... development over the course of the story which resulted in a really satisfying ending.

While the main draw is its fantastic gameplay, the environment is nothing short of amazing. The visual design that went into The Tower is very good. When I got to the city, there were a few times where I was just looking at the environment because of how well they pulled off the Cyberpunk look. If you need something to scratch that Cyberpunk itch and don't mind a challenge, this game is perfect.

In these reviews you'll find two types of people - the ones who wanted Doom to be an extremely gritty ""realistic"" demon hunting experience, and those who are looking for an arcade shooter demon hunting experience.

I for one enjoyed the increased vibrance, and the game still felt like Doom 2016 TO ME, unlike some other reviewers. All in all, it's Doom 2016 with a flamethrower, sucker punches, some extra platforming, and more story to boot). That's it. But that's a good thing, because 2016 was amazing! I found this game every bit as an enjoyable as 2016 and I think the vast majority of people will too.
