After playing this game for 30 hours, it is fun, but I would only recommend at a discount or included in the humble bundle.

It also janky as hell. After my ship got nerfed by a boss ramming me directly, loosing all my loot and failing to give me the ship 'ball' I could use to reconstruct my ship, I used cheat engine to get back up and running where I was. Clipping through objects, getting stuck, loot getting yeeted off into the nothing are all not only possible but regular occurances.

I also used it in the harder islands since the game is horribly unbalanced and has no problem one shotting you. It seems like many of the harder island creators are actively adversarial to their players. They WANT to one shot you, hide things in places in unintuitive places, and generally not guide you through their islands.

The said, the grappling and ship building are what keeps me coming back. Just be ready with a trainer; I find if a game is unfairly going to take my loot or gank me, it's only fair I have the means to fight back a bit.

I wanted to like this game, but had some real difficulty getting over some hurdles. The story is something where I WISH it was non-existent. Every trope you can think of is trotted out for a difficult to skip multiple minute cutscene every mission.

The missions are short, I couldn't find weapons that were satisfying to use, and the loot system requires you stop what you're doing to hurriedly select your loot while still being shot at. I hope you remember whether you have that armor in both left and right arms!

So I played a dozen or so missions and it follows the same loop. Annoying cutscene, a few minutes of combat, look at your loot what doesn't really matter, rinse and repeat. I just couldn't get into it, and from the other reviews it doesn't seem like this is a 'just get past X and it's fine' level.

This game has a flow state, movement mechanics and a sense of speed that sonic games have been looking for since their first game. The music is awesome, and the rouge-lite means you also get the thrill of putting together a god run and blasting through levels at mach 10.

The only criticism I have is the bosses are hit or miss. Some are fun, but easy, and others are infuriating and rely more on RNG than any skill you have playing the game. Still a hearty recommend.

This game is good mindless fun, however in it's current state the characters have been nerfed so heavily it's near impossible to play anything but the normal mode. I have a level 80 save file and I can't make it through more than a minute or two of hardcore before being turned into paste by basic mobs.

The heavy reliance on a LOT of skill points to see anything meaningful in terms of character power means there's no point to play anything other than the first mode anyways due to the money drops that turn into skill points.

How do you mess up a game that's run so well on PC for so long?

The answer is simple, just get gearbox involved.

EDIT: Their updates that claimed to fix the first problems now just cause the game to crash. Good job guys!

EDIT 2 - 10/7: Game is still broken. Gearbox essentially killed my ability to play this game anymore.

Couldn't get more than hour or so into the game before it reached a point where it always crashed. Every time I reloaded, the game crashed when attacking an enemy.

Game crashes on start in Windows 10. It's a known issue that isn't fixed.

With this bug the game is literally unplayable.

Thoroughly and wholly addictive.

Constant crashes. I can only review it based on a single cut scene and 30 seconds of mission time before it crashes, but on the constant and consistent crashes that is enough to warrant a 'won't recommend period'. Go to amazon and buy a $12 paperweight; at least that will have some functionality.
