great music, tight controls, fun to play, still hated it.

my file is 99% completed and i just cant take anymore. i've done just about everything there is to do minus the dlc stuff. which im also not going to do.

the game is fun, i'll give it that. it is probably the most fun platformer i have ever played. but i don't play games just for the challenge. if you like tight platforming and satisfyingly hard boss battles then this is probably as close to perfect as you will ever get. but if you come into this mainly looking for the "deep lore" everyone talks about like i did then you will be disappointed. you are better off looking up a lore video if that's all you want.

the game is actively hostile towards people trying to uncover its story and will happily let you go through the entire thing without understanding anything at all. if you want any kind of meaning you have to do some HEAVY extrapolation from the tiny scraps of information you hopefully gathered throughout your entire playthrough. a lot of which don't sound important or sound like gibberish, and most are easily missed due to it being a single line of text that you cant read a second time or its hidden behind very specific chain of requirements that the game never even hints at being a thing. the only reason i know ANY of the story is because i had the foresight to record myself and could look back at things later.

if i had to guess the developers didn't want you to understand anything and the game is specifically designed with that in mind. it really wasn't worth fighting it every step of the way just to get what little answers it gave. i spent 2 weeks of my life playing this game, trying my best to piece it together, and the game did not meet me halfway on anything. i even took a week off playing in the middle because i actually got mad at it. not for being too hard (because honestly most of it wasn't), but for dangling answers out of reach for so long.

there are a few things i dont quite understand about the lore but im not even going to look it up now. i dont care anymore. i wanted so badly to love this game like everyone else but im done.

the game does not reward curiosity. it does not reward exploration. it doesn't even reward mastery all that much. it rewards obsessiveness. and if you cant do that then the game doesn't think you deserve to know anything.
