TL;DR- Buy it, it's fun and will keep getting better.

I'll start with the negatives. I've played this completely solo and while doable is a lot of work for one person, a solo mode that makes the grind easier for one person would be a lovely addition at some point in the future. The skills are fairly bland at the moment and don't make much of a difference until very high levels. Maybe an Oblivion style system where you unlock perks or bigger bonuses every 25 points could spice it up. The sailing can also be a little excessive, given the size of the map and how much ocean there can be, adding in a late game item that increases boat speed would be nice. All in all I don't have a lot of bad things to say about the game.

Onto the good stuff. For an early access game, you will definitely get your money's worth. It's easy to sink hours into building a new base, going on resource runs, or just scouting out a new chunk of land to uncover the whole map. Very satisfying gameplay loop. Soundtrack is excellent, and although at first I wasn't a fan of the graphics they've grown on me. For a survival game the combat is decent, almost Souls-like. You can dodge, parry, and every action consumes stamina, although the possibility for some extreme cheese exists.

I'm just shy of 200 hours and about to take on the 4th of 5 bosses, and plan on starting a new world once I defeat the last boss. There's also a decent modding community including a huge overhaul project called Valheim Plus that allows you to alter nearly aspect of the game to your liking as well as adding in a more complex building system.
