I have played this game throughout various periods of it's life. Despite jank/buggy ai, removing the ability to select different scenarios before entering a mission, and performance issues that myself and many others online have experienced with the game, I have previously highly recommended this game to peers. This game scratches an itch that few others do. It's gun play is amazing and the slow paced nature of the game is extremely unique. It was supposed to be the spiritual successor to Swat 4 and to be honest I feel that it largely lived up to that role. And yet, I can no longer recommend that people purchase and support this game due to the team behind it deciding to censor elements of their game.

This game was always going to be controversial in nature. It is a police simulator in the 21st century when law enforcement seem to always be in the media spotlight 24/7. We also live in an era where terrorist attacks and shootings have unfortunately become a common occurrence that we hear about more and more often. However, despite how controversial these issues are, the team behind this game previously decided to depict these issues carefully but while also showing them respect. They did not pull any punches in their portrayal of events and that is part of the reason why this game was so unique. I remember a conversation I had with my father after he heard from friends at work that "a video game is adding a school shooting level". He thought it was a horrible idea and that including such an event is in poor taste and could never be done justice in something as "silly as a video game". I am not going to pretend like it is an unreasonable opinion to dislike the inclusion of tragedies like this in video games. However, I will never forget my first time playing The Elephant and entering the auditorium with all the dead students. It was a similar moment to the first time I entered Neon Tomb and saw the massive piles of dead bodies and heard phones ringing that would ultimately never be answered again.

While those missions are not being censored, I feel it proves my point that the developers used to refuse to censor content even if it was the more "socially acceptable" thing to do. The truth is, horrible people sometimes do horrible things and law enforcement have to respond to those events and witness the carnage firsthand. Sometimes, children do get access to their parent's drugs and have a negative reaction. It is silly to depict this as a girl simply sleeping on a bed when you previously depicted it in a much more effective and heartbreaking way. Sometimes, people are victims of human trafficking. When people are trafficked, they are rarely given brand new and freshly cleaned underwear to put on, which is how you are now choosing to depict these victims. Sometimes, police are put into positions where they have to use lethal force against a suspect and someone's body gets mutilated as a result from the gunfire. Removing gore from dead bodies does a disservice to anyone who is unfortunate enough to witness these horrible events.

Personally, I don't believe that the slippery slope fallacy always acts as a fallacy. If the company and developers behind this game are ok censoring the game "just a little bit" who knows what else they may be willing to change. When I purchased this game I was promised a gritty and realistic swat simulator that wouldn't pull any punches. I felt that I got that when I first purchased that game. I don't feel that way anymore. It is a shame too, because Wendigoon just released an amazing video going over this game and praising it for not pulling any punches. As he said in his video when talking about horrible events and how to depict them, "if you are going to show it, show it". The game could have received a small boost and some positive publicity after the release of Wendigoon's video. It is a shame now that if someone watches that video and decides they want to check out the game, they will be greeted by a barrage of negative reviews and controversy.

Revert the changes, at least on PC. It isn't too late.

Honestly, I enjoy this more than the remaster. Surprisingly, this game still has an active player base, there isn't any microtransactions, and servers often have admins who can swiftly ban cheaters. Would absolutely recommend, one of my favorite shooters of all time.

One of my favorite games of all time. Brilliant writing, story, and environment. The game is somewhat short, but with a really fun co-op mode, the game can feel way longer. You can also try the community made chambers. If you don't own this game, especially with it's low price tag (during sales as low as $1.99!) something is wrong with you. Buy it, you won't regret it

The ending still gives me goosebumps.

While the game isn't for me, I have had some fun playing with friends with the little time I did play. I am recommending this game because this racism controversy is some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. People leaving negative reviews for the game because of something a player said, would be like leaving a negative review for a Chevy because someone driving a Chevy was a ♥♥♥♥ to me. It makes no sense.

I started my journey in this series with the Fallout 4 on the Playstation 4. I am kind of glad I started with that game because it made this game seem even better then it truly is. The many factions offer many playthroughs, and the dlc just adds onto that. With over 106 normal weapons and 41 unique variants of weapons (without dlc), you can play through the game with many options for weapons. Overall, this game is a very solid one, and is really cheap. If you don't want to pick it up for the measly $10.00 USD, wait for a sale (the game goes down to $2.49 at times!).

So overall, I would highly recommend this game. You can playthrough multiple characters and still be discovering new stuff. Is this game over praised? Maybe a little. But it truly is a damn good game.

A really fun, cheap, and cancerous game all at the same time. If you own steam and not Garry's Mod, what are you doing with your life. Get it now.... Go on....

I had a lot fun with this game back in the day. I have payday 2 now, but still come back to this one. Just somthing about it makes it feels special. Anyway, I highly recommend this game, but I would get payday 2 first, along with the DLC. Great game, just not as much replay value as in Payday 2.
