for those that do not enjoy this game I would highly recommend using the item box mod, it makes the game so so much better, like its actually crazy how much better and simpler this game becomes with the item box, there are a few parts that you can really tell that the game was not designed with that mechanic in mind but for 99% of the game it is a massive improvement.

To start off I wanted to say that I did play the first game and for the most part i did enjoy it, the gameplay was really fun but the writing and presentation left a lot to be desired

I went into the sequel expecting about the same and i was incredibly pleasantly surprised
Dark Deity 2 is a enormous improvement on everything the first game did it just about every way
maybe its because i went into it not expecting much but the story and writing is significantly better and i actually really enjoyed the story in this game, it has its moments of cringe but overall was really great.
The gameplay is everything the first did but better, each class and unit type is significantly more fleshed out with tons of interesting abilities ands ways to mix and match classes.
The game also looks amazing all the sprites are incredibly well crafted and the hand drawn art and portraits of all the characters look fantastic.

I'd give this game a try if you like strategy RPGs and as someone who had never played a fire emblem game prior to playing dark deity 1 i thoroughly enjoyed this game.

Shadow Gambit may very well be Mimimi's magnum opus it is a culmination of all the previous stealth strategy games and is the gold standard for the genre in modern day mimimi's games essentially revived an almost dead genre bringing it into the modern age with their incredible works
unfortunately shadow gambit is now a swan song as mimimi closed their doors after its release its incredibly sad such an incredible studio had to be shut down with what felt like a fairly short lifespan
but they left us with something truly extraordinary
I wish all the devs the best you deserve it thank you for the games you made

"Do you feel like a hero yet?"

Spec Ops The Line is quite possibly one of the most important games in its genre, when this game came out it was the absolute height of the modern military call of duty style shooters, the games where you play as some awesome epic special forces guys and beat the bad guys and save the world from nuclear destruction blah blah blah

Spec Ops The Line is different, most people know how this game is an adaptation of the legendary novella Heart of Darkness but I feel not enough people discuss the way it parodies and satirises games like Call of Duty, much in the same way movies like Apocalypse Now (also based on Heart of Darkness) parodied war films of the time
Spec Ops the line fools the player into believing they are the good guy, they are the big awesome hero guy whose gonna come in and save the day but very quickly you come to realize you aren't as the story unfolds and your mind and morals and what you thought you knew or believed crumbles around you, it turns from an action movie to a horror movie real quickly, there are no winners no heroes just a bunch of guys with guns going insane in the desert, this aspect of dread and pure horror and disgust that you see in this game is severely lacking in games like Call of Duty and considering games like that are very likely funded by the US military as propaganda pieces (allegedly) is very much intentional, Activision doesn't set out to realistically depict modern warfare, they want to make it look cool and make the player feel like a badass so they will keep play and hopefully enlist and go the the sandbox (allegedly) Spec Ops the line is certainly highly exaggerated but its still much more real than anything games like Call of Duty have depicted (except maybe WaW)

a very common critique i see of this game is the gameplay is very bland which is fair but I think it was intentional to further emphasise the games it was parodying
another very common critique I've seen is that "the message doesn't work because the game forces you to do bad thing and then feel bad about it"
and like no...? beyond that critique being stupid cope a game forcing the story in a certain direction doesn't invalidate what its trying to say like in Hotline Miami the point of the game is to make the player question the violent actions they are committing but nobody complains about that even tho you have to commit those actions to progress just like in Spec Ops
its just such an asinine critique that doesn't even hold water when you think about it for more than 5 seconds also not to mention that fact that this sorta thing happens in real life, like quite often in fact, there are plenty of examples of soldiers committing horrific acts just because they were ordered too and they felt like they had no choice, and you wouldn't say to someone like that "its stupid to feel bad because you were forced to do it anyway" and the player isn't even necessarily the one meant to feel bad its meant to be for the characters in game its not like the characters in this game are vessels for the player, they are actual characters that we just happen to control
another critique I've seen is that the choices in the game you get to make don't matter which is partially true but this is a pretty linear game so there Isn't really room for complex choices matter type situations, I think that most choices are mainly about the player testing their own morality and what the would do regardless of if they end up with the same result
there are a couple choices that do matter mainly the endings but there is one that does matter and its actually kinda hidden
SPOILERS BEYOND
when you first run into the American platoon you find one of the members alone and you attempt to question him and normally what happens is he leaves and then calls his friends in and you get the reveal that the American soldiers are perpetrating the horrific actions you were sent in to stop but in that scene you can actually shoot the guy before he leaves and your squad mates will freak out and get mad at you but since you shot him he doesn't call in his buddies and you basically skip a short little firefight that normally happens mostly just a kinda cool little detail
there are 4 main endings to Spec Ops The Line and normally there is a defacto best ending or a specific favourite ending that you have that you prefer over the others, but Spec Ops The Line is probably the only game where I think all 4 endings are equally perfect they all work so well as a conclusion for different reasons

Spec Ops The Line is monumentally important game it is a game that I and many others will never forget a game that easily could have followed the trends and been a sub par reboot of an old forgotten series (oh yeah btw this game was meant to be a reboot of the Spec Ops series which is wild) but instead the developers chose to do something extraordinary and created a game that actually meant something
an absolute must play and
