So uh. I'm not done with all this game has to offer but all the characters I've met has been a treat even the insufferable SWEETHEART. Combat feels great and provides a lot of creativity with your tactics. The whole party be schmovin' on the dancefloor as well. Immediate win in my booK. WHAT'RE YOU WAITING FOR?!

Okay so I saw the concept and on a whim I gave this a shot.




Despite the little time I've played this game I can say it feels good, not great, but good. You have a plethora of characters to try out and explore to find the perfect playstyle for you. It is very reminiscent of older kart games such as Crash Team Racing(CTR), Diddy Kong Racing, and the famous Mario Kart series. Most characters in this game are brought over from other Adult video games that are either out or being made right now such as Talia from Future Fragments. Each track is also filled with references galore from Leisure Suit to SNK Heroine's female Terry Bogard. Loads of ways to unlock characters either by skill or grind basically leaving no player left behind.



These gripes are only situated in three areas; the Music, the boost chain mechanic, and how some of the characters feel.



The music I feel are closer to original variants if not the original song used in the game it came from minus the tracks that are from Shady Lewd Kart itself. The gripe is that the music doesn't do much to pull me in and hype me up in a race or marvel at the track itself. Most of it feels too quiet and uneventful. As an example, the forest level based on the forest in Future Fragments. The song used there works great in the metroidvania-mega man game it was made for but not so much here in Shady Lewd Kart in my opinion.


This might just stem from myself possibly being not so great at the game (I honestly don't know) or just not fully understanding the mechanic itself and that's the boost mechanic. It's great I love it, chaining boost after boost to enhance the boost you're already on? Sign me up! The sense of speed it gives the player is a giant plus. I feel it might be a tiny bit difficult to chain these boosts with just drifting alone. It could be a design choice so the player could strategize a perfect racing line that rewards them with perfectly timed chains with boost panels, drifts, and hops. To my understanding it was going to be something similar to CTR where you could chain 3 boosts in a row for a bigger boost reward after mixed with snaking from Mario Kart DS.


This last one is pretty small and will be summed up as quick as possible.

• Characters say a single line repeatedly in varying intervals when you boost well/consistently. However it's a single line that is spoken a bit too often.
  
  
• Some characters have low enough acceleration stats that it becomes a task to get them up to speed after being bombarded with items a la Mario Kart while others feel so perfect that races just feel great.

This game has so much potential. It has so much commitment put into it. So many video game references for those that have heard of, watched, or even played the popular games being referenced. A smile was brought to my face when i opened the shop the first time to hear "WHATTAYA BOUYIN'?" from the store's owner, seeing femme Terry Bogard as a playable character, etc. These devs know what they are doing and they are just rolling with it. I look forward to the finished product. Please give this a shot if you have a thing for Kart Racers or even just love the characters they added. There's a lot of promise here and it shows.

Really fun game. Loads of stuff to do. Disappoints on one front: One area constantly locks up for 1-10 minutes at a time before resuming. Other than that whole game runs well.
