Well, first you have to be in the "Steam Beta Program"(go into "Settings" and change "Beta Participation" to "Beta Update").
Go into any game(Including non-steam games you have in your library), and when you want to take a screenshot to upload onto steam, press F12.
You have to upload the pictures in-game though, if you exit the game before you do, the screenshots will be deleted.

No! No! What I mean is the screenshots under your "Gameplay Stats", How did you get screenshots on your profile? :)

You go into "Edit my profile", scroll down to "Change profile picture", click "browse" and find a picture you want as your avatar.
