As a long-time fan with around 100 hours in the game, I was completely absorbed by Hero Siege's chaotic, fast-paced, and wonderfully addictive gameplay loop. It was the perfect blend of a roguelite and an ARPG—simple to pick up, but with enough depth to keep you coming back. The 2.0 update promised to evolve the game, but unfortunately, in its ambition to become "bigger," Hero Siege 2.0 lost the very essence of what made it fun.
The original game thrived on its simplicity. You'd jump in, smash hordes of monsters, and get that satisfying dopamine hit from a cool legendary drop. The progression felt direct and rewarding. The 2.0 overhaul completely gutted this experience. Instead of a straightforward ARPG, Hero Siege now feels like a convoluted and soulless attempt to mimic games like Path of Exile, but without the polish or thoughtful design.
The biggest problem is the overwhelming system bloat. The itemization, once exciting, is now a tedious chore. The game now expects you to manage countless crafting materials, complex runewords, and a skill system that feels more like a spreadsheet than a fun way to build a character. The core gameplay of "killing monsters" has taken a backseat to "managing inventories."
This shift has also ruined the game's pacing. The early and mid-game are an absolute slog. Progress feels incredibly slow. What used to be a game you could enjoy in short, exciting bursts now demands a massive, grinding time investment just to make marginal progress.
In conclusion, the Hero Siege 2.0 update is a textbook example of how "more" does not always mean "better." By piling on complex systems, the developers have stripped the game of its identity. I miss the old Hero Siege and I genuinely don't understand why players couldn't be given a choice. My biggest request to the developers is this: please, bring back just one server for the old version, for Hero Siege 1. I'm sure many players, like myself, would happily return to it. This new version is simply not the game I fell in love with.
